God is amongst us, dear brothers and sisters!
In April, 2020, my cousin, Bojan (Radivoje) Čalija from Herzegovina, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, glioblastoma. The tumor from his brain was successfully removed by neurologists at KCS, Belgrade. Further treatment, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy, have been done. The nature of this tumor is very aggressive, especially in young patients like Bojan, who is 37. Therefore, even with surgery and this treatment protocol, the average life expectancy of a glioblastoma patient is fifteen months. However, improved outcomes for this type of tumor have been shown in those receiving immunotherapy. Such therapy is available only in a few countries, Germany being one of them. Unfortunately, the family does not have the ability to finance such a costly treatment regimen. Therefore, I am writing to kindly ask for your help in donating to Bojan’s immunotherapy treatment in Tubingen, Germany. The calculated cost of two years’ worth of immunotherapy is 44,500 EUR, in addition to 12,000 EUR worth of follow-up visits after the therapy. We hope that by receiving this immunotherapy, Bojan can have a new chance at life. He can continue to be the great husband, the amazing father he is to Stefan and Sara, and the accomplished scientist and professor at the Pharmacological University in Belgrade.

У априлу 2020. године, мом рођаку, Бојану Чалији, дијагностикован је малигни тумор мозга, глиобластома. Тумор је успјешно одстрањен на КБЦ у Београду. Даље лијечење је настављено по стандардном протоколу радиотерапијом и хемиотерапијом. Ова врста тумора је веома агресивна, посебно код млађих пацијената као Бојан, коме је 37 година. Уз стандардни третман, просјечно преживљавање пацијената је око 15 мјесеци. Међутим, у Њемачкој постоји лијечење имунотерапијом које знатно побољшава исход лијечења овог тумора. Нажалост, Бојанова породица нема довољно новчаних средстава за лијечење имунотерапијом у Тубингену, Њемачка. Трошкови терапије за двије године су 44 500 евра и још 12 000 евра за контроле током прве године. Надамо се да ће примјеном имунотерапије Бојан добити нову шансу да настави да буде диван муж и добар отац Стефану и Сари, као и успјешан научник и ван. проф. на Фармацеутском факултету Београдског Универзитета.
