Hello,

I am installing ETE3 using conda as described on the download page. This downgrades python to version 3.6. However, I am hoping to use it on a Jupyter notebook server, where I need to install 'ipykernel', which requires version 3.8+. Is there any way to use ETE3 with newer versions of python?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

I think the only element in ete3 who hold the back of python version <= 3.6 is the pmodeltest which one software in ete_toolchain in the repo (https://anaconda.org/etetoolkit/repo). I suggest you to go for the python version as you want.
Then instead of installing ete_toolchain, install all the softwares or the softwares you need in the https://anaconda.org/etetoolkit/repo except for pmodeltest which needs python<=3.6.

best,
Ziqi
