Coloring clade without leaf label

Hi,

I'm trying to color the background of a clade and would like the coloring to stop at the leaf nodes. The default behavior is for all columns, including leaf labels, to have the background color. The NodeStyle documentation indicates a partition_bgcolor parameter that should do this, but it doesn't appear to work in ETE3.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this effect or why the partition_bgcolor parameter doesn't appear to be implemented?
