I was using Eternal-september for several years before discontinuing it
for the last year. I am trying to access a list of newsgroups so I can
subscribe to the ones that interest me. I am not able to bring up a
list of groups.

I go to Newsgroups and "Manage Newsgroup subscriptions." There are no
newsgroups shown in the "Select the newsgroups to subscribe to" box and
typing a name such as "computer" into the "Show items that contain" box
results in nothing. All that I see are the eternal-september newsgroups
and this is how I have sent this post. How do I view the list of groups
so I can subscribe to the ones that I want?

My account name is news.eternal-september.org. Port is set at 119.
Outgoing server (Smtp) is set at 465

Maybe I need to login to this account, but how?

1. Register a user name with Eternal-September.org:
http://www.eternal-september.org/RegisterNewsAccount.php?language=en

2. Configure Thunderbird with the account data received in your
registration mail and, for Thunderbird, use the "Always authenticate"
option.

3. Connect to the server and load the group list.
