Hi typers and readers,

Recently some individuals have suggested that political discussion
achieves nothing.
To refute that nihilistic POV I have decided to list some
political discussions that have achieved something.

1700s in the British Colonies of North America political
discussion achieved Independence from the British Empire. It
was not for democratic ends but in order to escape the BE ban on
the Westward expansion of the Colonies.

1789 discussion of changes to the Articles of the Confederacy
which were the weak agreement between the freshly freed states of the
USA resulted in the US Constitution. It has serious compromises and
even the the Bill of Rights was not clearly written so that we have
the confusion of the laws on firearms.

And to jump forward a couple of centuries, political discussion
by the homosexual population in California helped achieve the legality
of consensual sexual behavior between adults.*

And a few decades later political discussion achieved the legalization
for medical use of cannabis in California. And a
short time later it achived the legalization of cannabis for
recreational use.*

In 2019 and a bit earlier Political Discussion resulted in the
defeat of a great internal enemy of Democracy in the USA in 2020.*

So I leave out the rest of the world where political discussion
has achieved triumphs and glaring failures due to unrealistic ideas.

* I participated or helped in a strictly unimportant way.

Perhaps but I took it to refer to any political discussion.
If an insult to my personal political discussion was intended it was
wasted as i am too stupid to take what people who only read what I
type on Usenet serioously. To insult what I am typing about is
rather pointless, IMHO.

When I said it - it was implied that it was a waste of time with the
other people involved! Which it often is. But some people are obviously
more literal minded.

Some people don't like multiline signatures. I kindly request that they
keep their concerns in their own brains. Usenet isn't what it used to be.
The servers are more powerful, have more storage, and have faster uplinks
in even the worst cases. Long sigs can't hurt you anymore.

All forms of killfiling of individuals are a form of punitive criminal
justice system and therefore always unethical.

"Scorefile" sounds much nicer.
