WHY in GG can't i subscribe to a thread in (Eternal-September.Newusers) ?

No, I haven't. E-S blocks articles identified as spam by Cleanfeed/SpamAssassin.

Talking about reading comprehension: The O.P. clearly states that he is
referring to the Google Groups web client, where you can "subscribe" to
a thread, meaning that you will be notified by email when a new article
arrives in a particular thread. For obvious reasons this does not work
with a NNTP server and a newsreader.

Sorry, my misunderstanding then.

I wonder then why the only GG poster that I know of is not showing up in
one of my newsgroups ..... unless their post is quoted by some other
poster. But no great loss!

I "subscribed" to this *thread* in Google Groups by simply replying to
an article in the thread. As soon as somebody else posts a follow-up in
the thread, I receive an email notification. That's how "subscribing to
a thread" works in Google Groups. I just demonstrated this feature, as
you don't seem to be familiar with Google Groups ;-)
