Correct, but you don't enter the password on any of TBirds pages. Once
you click on a group to retrieve messages, if you have the rest set up
correctly E-S will ask for your password in a pop up box.

Thank you both.
I have login credentials but unfortunately I can't find any way to enter my
username and password.
Mozilla Thunderbird does not allow me to do it neither in
"Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings"
nor if I click on a group to retrieve messages.
I can't figure out why this happens to me.
If instead I use Windows Live Mail as a newsreader I have no problems.
It's okay, I'll always use Windows Live Mail.
Thanks again and I wish you both a good day.

If you have enabled
"Always request authentication when connecting to this server", it
should prompt you for the password if you connect to E-S.

Unfortunately, TB doesn't appear to support a dot access file :-(

Had the same problem. Then I did a REFRESH in the window that showed
only eternal-september groups, then I got the full list.
Hope this helps.

Does Thunderbird have to be restarted for this to take effect?

Thanks!

Shouldn't.

Shouldn't. I use Thunderbird for accessing USENet, and, it can be a
booger to configure correctly.

Take your time, and follow the steps to the letter. It may take several
tries, but, you'll get there.

One caveat. If you make a mistake, you have to start over from a clean
slate, with Thunderbird. You'll have to delete everything and begin again.

As for passwords...as previously mentioned, be sure that 'always
authenticate when connecting to this server' is ticked. Then open a
group page, and enter your password, when prompted. Be sure to tick the
box, on the prompt, that instructs Thunderbird to retain and manage the
password.

Can you configure it so that it gives you a painful electrical shock to
teach you to stop top posting?

Good point. Sorry. Bad habit from work e-mail. Top posting required.

I'll work on the electro-shock thing.

So, at work, you have things set up the way The Boss wants it .... at
home you have things set up the way WE want it!! ;-)

A severe oversimplification. But, close.
