Dear Eta Lambda Brothers and Little Sisters,

I am utilizing Frank Overbey's Alumni list as well as a Google Groups address that Brad Williamson has provided me (all cc'ed here for ALL to see, incase some of you folks want to add other emails of "lost" brothers or little sisters or just those not listed here -- send me a note directly by "reply" and I will add them to our growing list!) to ask for thoughts and prayers for an Eta Lambda brother who is unfortunately probably down to his final days or hours.
The letter below was sent to me today by Little Sister Kathy Redhage (maiden name) and she wrote this heartfelt note to ALL of you about our Brother in need, RICK LOUCKS.  PLEASE SHARE IT with any Theta Chi's from Tech and from the 80's or whenever someone would have known Rick.  My personal memory is of spending a Summer with Rick in 1983 when we both lived at the Ranch, and we laughed and cut up and hit the town (T.O.T.S.) almost every night when we should have been studying....NO REGRETS HERE!  Rick was always so easy to laugh, and he was always so darned SMART!  His middle name was and is "LOYAL" -- he would always have my back, completely. What a blessing it is to have called Rick a Brother as Undergrads 30+ years ago and since.  -  Mikey

One of the most difficult things to do in life is to prepare to say goodbye to someone.

Rick Loucks is nearing the end of his 5 year battle with kidney cancer.  He is at home and under hospice care.

His wife Vicki has asked me to reach out to the OX brothers and little sisters that are friends with Rick and Vicki with this update and a request.

Please take a minute from your lives today and reach out to Rick, Vicki and their 15 year old son Bryce.  Don’t wait. Send it today.

I waited to send a message to another brother that we lost this summer (Graydon) and it was too late.  I regret not reaching out when my heart told me to, and have to live with that each day.

Please send messages of peace, love and support.  Rick is either reading the messages, or Vicki is reading them to him.  Please do not expect a response from either of them.  Rick is only awake a few hours each day, and is unable to type.  You can message both Rick and Vicki on Facebook.

Vicki is also asking that if you have any photos of him, to please share -- if not publicly on FB, then to her email address.  VickiS...@gmail.com .  Please don’t use Rick’s email address.  The ones shared on Facebook are helping all of us remember the vibrant person of years past.  You can also send an email to Vicki.  She will read all of them to Rick.

If you have any funny stories to share, please do that as well.  Vicki wants Bryce to understand that his Dad was not always sick, as Rick has been ill for over 1/3 of Bryce’s life.

He was a happy and funny guy.  There are lots of fun stories.  I remember sledding in the snow behind the OX house one winter night and my contact lens fell out….and why did we think that storing it in a flask of bourbon was a good idea?  Was it with you, Fitz? Remember that one??  Then there was Ring Dance….

Rick has been a part of my life since the early 1980’s.  I first met him at OX, and little did I know back then that I would meet my husband through Rick (they were roommates at VT) at one of Roger Jones’ famous Halloween parties.   Rick and Vicki are our best friends, and they are family to us.  Rick is our son’s Godfather. Our kids call him Uncle Rick.  We just can’t imagine life without him.

Jim and I will be there for Vicki and Bryce for all the years to come.  As we told Rick, “We’ve got them” so he knows he can rest in peace and know his family will be okay.

Thank you all.  Please send me your email address if you aren’t on Facebook and I’ll let you know of the plans for his memorial.  kathy...@gmail.com
