Sincea BIOS administrator password is set up, you have to enter this password to get into BIOS and change BIOS setup settings. Here this article will show you the way to set up or reset the BIOS Administrator password on Asus laptop/motherboard desktop computer.

This method needs to log into Windows, if you are also locked out of Windows forgot password, you can unlock your computer following this article: Locked out of Windows 10 laptop forgot password how to unlock.

I was playing around with the BIOS settings and somehow I fat fingered the password not once, but twice.. and now I'm locked out of the computer entirely. I was trying to figure out what the difference was between the "User" password, and the "Administrator" password - and the difference is that "User" won't allow the system to boot at all without that password.

I've tried pulling the main power from the tiny little motherboard, and this appears to make no difference with these newer laptops which don't have specific bios batteries to remove. Any suggestions?

So I followed his directions, but it didn't work for me. After a bit of searching, apparently the bios rescue password is tied to whatever the bios thinks the date is.. I can't get my Bios to go back any further than 2012/01/01 though (pulling the power on the motherboard for a few minutes achieved this). The video had a bios of 2002/01/02, which is way older than what I have. I'll have to keep looking.

Thanks for trying, but this didn't work. Hitting Alt +r on the 'enter password' window just resulted in an asterisk being displayed a the entered password. Alt + r never got me to 'enter rescue password' screen. This may work with older versions of the BIOS, but I believe Azus considered this 'backdoor' a security issue and fixed it so it no longer works.

I did some more research on you laptop ,netbook with no cmos battery it has to use battery power and if disconnected will stay viable with static charge that remains in the board .So to drain the board disconnect the battery and hold down the power button for a few minutes then try it and see if it worked if it didn't,disconnect the battery again and leave the battery disconnected for several days till all residual power is drawn off when you think you have all the residual power drained away plug in and try again . Hope this works better

BARELY lift the bottom away (just a little bit) else you'll yank some cables out you won't want to yank out. Peek under the bottom cover and find the ONE CABLE connecting the system board to the battery. Remove it and any NVME drives.

CONNECT THE EXTERNAL POWER CABLE and turn the computer on. The scren will remain blank for a few minutes but eventually go into BIOS setup. Both the user and administrator password will be unset. SAVE THAT CONFIGURATION (F10) and SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER.

Oh thank God! Some mysterious miraculous way I somehow figure it out the administrator password that my ex-wife had set and forgotten! I know that doesn't help you my friends but at least celebrate with me that I just saved $700. Thank you everyone for your input and I hope your journey to find the solution on your end goes well

Hi! Unfortunately the power balloon option is not going to work because it will take years for the residual power to drain off the motherboard per the advice of another contributor on iFixit who has more computer electrical engineering than I do. This is how the motherboard is able to retain machine language and BIOS when the hard drive is removed or the battery is removed or if the laptop is not plugged in. That is the same no power source whatsoever except for the residual electrical charge already on the board.

With all Windows 8 laptop or computers that have problems with Bios Security Password. What you can do enter your log in password or your normal log in password into the Bios Security. Press Enter and it will direct you to the Bios windows. On top search for Security go down to all the password type the same password into it and then enter when a window pops up to re-enter new password leave it blank. Just press Enter and it will just direct you to your normal log in.

mine shows 2014/05/20, I can not get into bios because it only gets to the first screen " enter bios password" right now I have gotten as far as the first screen again and it says "enter rescue password" which I have not found anywhere on the internet.

I have the same problem with my Asus notebook. I have tried everything and had just about enough. I lent it to my boyfriend and my ex now when I got my hp . A few days ago I had gotten my car stolen and" poof "Hp is gone. I don't have the password and he said he can't remember it. Can't afford to take it to the shop so I am trying to D. I y . Anyone with answers please do tell. Thank you

I wish i actually had an answer for you. I was actually gonna see if anyone was able to get anyhelp without paying an arm and a leg. I recently got a ASUS Gaming laptop. Ended up getting a hacker problem and fience decided to do i guess a factory reset. He entered the administrative password i guess and cant remember where he put it. Can you use letters numbers and anything else in the passwords. or is it just plain numbers. I have a whole new ballgame if you can use anything. I will be sending it back lol. Ill be here all day

I decided to review my answer and the answers posted concerning the subject. In retrospect the short answer is "it all depends on how old your laptop is." All of the listed solutions above can and do work if your laptop is old enough. Now this part is my opinion and my opinion is that prior to 2017 models pulling out the battery or going to the paste bin method or changing the date or holding a function button plus another key or potentially all viable options IF and only if your Asus is pre 2017. After this date your option is to literally replace the motherboard (DIY) OR send it back to the manufacturer (ASUS.) Is now 2023 and I originally posted my findings in 2020. I have yet to find any other solution beyond this. I have empathy for all y'all. Please if you find a solution please post it for all to see. I was fortunate enough to finally remember my password.

The DIY method of assembling an SPI Programmer from a 'Maker'/electronics hobby shop kit is by far the most cost efficient. You're just soldering electronic parts onto a PCB is actually very easy after some preparation. For example, learning a few soldering techniques from Youtube like using wicks & soldering pads then laying surface mount parts on top then applying the iron to reflow the solder.

Can I get some guidance for how to do that? I have the CH341Programmer, I have downloaded the software for it, connected the Bios to it, but I don't exactly know what bios to get write... I tried downloading the latest bios update from Asus, but that doesn't seem to work, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can you help me? :)

My story is even funnier. I don't need my Asus X411UA laptop from 2018 anymore so I prepared it to give it to a family member. Did all the cleaning and removing of my personal data on it, had to do a lot of updates (I'm using a better laptop since over a year already so the Asus one got a little "rusty" in the software) and thus had multiple system restarts where I used my pw just fine.

After I was done with the cleaning I went into BIOS settings, found the Security part, clicked on the "Admin-Password" field, it asked me to write current pw which I did and down below were 2 lines for the NEW pw + repeat. Which I of course LEFT BLANK since the new owner doesn't need any pws. I DIDN'T typed ANYTHING in those fields. It asks "do you really want to reset the password?" - I click YES; Save+Exit/reboot... and guess what? It asks for bios PW again.

Totally confused I write my previous pw and... "INVALID PASSWORD". I leave the field blank (since I thought when I left the fields blank when resetting the pw maybe the PW is now just a blank too" -> "INVALID PASSWORD"

After a long research tried everything in the comments above - "INVALID PASSWORD".

ALT+R doesn't work it just writes the "R" (covered by *) ...

I'm LOST!

Had the bios user password issue on an Asus UM425I. This laptop had a faulty keyboard causing even more issues. Customer told me the bios password but it would not work, even after plugging in an external usb keyboard. After many frustrating attempts to guess or clear the password, I typed 1234 and it worked! I did leave the battery disconnected for about an hour. No idea if this helped or not.

@ididit My previous pw was actually a sentense with big letters, numbers in between and special marks at the end. I will try what you did but I'm pretty sure that ASUS have not set my PW to 1234 after I deleted it ...

@cccpredarmy I personally set different passwords for both the Admin and User users. I only cleared Admin's password---as you described---and not User's password. On reboot, I was prompted for a password and could only get into the MyAsus UEFI with User's password. This was on a 2023 Zenbook 14X.

My story is that my ASUS laptop in new condition had a battery issue. Fortunately, I was still in an extended holiday return period, and ASUS and Geek Squad represenatives recommended bringing it to the store for an exchange. At Best Buy, I learned I was required to remove the UEFI password first; the Geek Squad needed to be able to reinstall Windows. I called a friend to relay the Admin password I had written down, and I removed it with a Geek Squad technician observing me. We both had no idea why the UEFI was still locked afterwards.
