Call for papers:

Third Annual Conference – Symposium of the

Israeli Network for the Academic Study of Western Esotericism (INASWE)

Hebrew University, Jerusalem

May 27, 2013

Methods in the Study of Esotericism

The study of esotericism – Western and non-Western alike – has only recently taken the form of a distinct field of academic research. Leading scholars have spent considerable energy on various attempts to define the essence, aims and objectives of this enterprise, but as a matter of fact, an enormous diversity of themes and research projects coexists under the heading of the study of esotericism. Specific academic interests and different disciplinary backgrounds add to a diversity of methods and topics, which enriches the study of esotericism, but occasionally also hampers dialogue and exchange.

The purpose of this symposium will be to reflect upon the different research methods applied by individual scholars, and to bring these approaches into a fruitful dialogue. Scholars working on specific topics related to esotericism are invited to present their research projects with a special focus on their methods. Likewise, critical appraisals of previous scholarship and of the status questionis in different fields of the study of esotericism will be very welcome.

Proposals for 30min papers and short abstracts should be sent not later than February 15, 2013, to
