Leonid was very vocal about the current sad state of affairs in the Ukraine, and how very worried they were for friends and families back in the old country. Of course, the situation has seriously escalated in the last few days, and this is obviously a very difficult time for everyone at Alex Sound Tech and all the people of Ukraine. Leonid also reiterated to me that they were very keen to meet with a representative from Positive Feedback, as they read a lot of high-end audio coverage, but feel a certain sympatico with the quality of audio journalism offered by Positive Feedback. I thanked him for his confidence, and assured him we're just trying to keep it real! Leonid also told me that he'd be translating Alex's responses to my questions, since Alex doesn't speak much English.

Last, but not least, the Alex Sound Tech room contained static displays of their cable and connector offerings, and all equipment within the room employed True Power Lab cables and high-end power connectors from IeGO and ATL. All of their cables and connectors use premium metals that span a range of fittings made from premium red copper, tellurium copper, ETP pure copper, and the IeGO brand is the only cable manufacturer in the world that makes fittings from solid silver. Pure copper, silver, gold, and rhodium plating is used throughout the three cable lines. The cables I observed in place in the system setup and in the static displays were among the most overbuilt examples of audio cable artistry I've encountered, and were almost jewel-like in their appearance. All cables in use in the system displayed at FAE were from True Power Lab, which is Alex Sound Tech's own in-house brand; they also manufacture the very substantial equipment racks that showcased the equipment offerings. You can find additional information about True Power Lab cables and construction HERE.

In my new home near Charleston, South Carolina, I have the entire second floor dedicated to my audio pursuits. I refer to the larger listening room as the Digital room; it currently houses the Magneplanar LRS+ loudspeakers, which need more space to perform at their peak and to cast hyper-realistic stereo images. It currently features the Naiu Labs Ella stereo amplifier and a pair of PS Audio M700 monoblock amplifiers, either of which provides the LRS+ with unbelievably deep power reserves (although I have a definite preference for the Naiu Labs Ella!). And the room features the magnificent Euphony Audio streaming and library management equipment, along with excellent DACs from Topping and Gustard; the Gustard DAC is also connected to a Gustard C18 oven-controlled constant temperature external clock. High speed internet into my home (ATT) is entirely optical, from the street to inside the house; however, it also employs an Eero Pro 6E mesh system that provides my home's wireless. Very short runs of Cat 7 ethernet cable are used between the upstairs Eero unit and my Euphony Audio equipment, along with a very short umbilical run of Cat 7 ethernet cable between the dual box Euphony setup. I use a TP Link Digital Media Converter to reconvert the ethernet to optical between the Eero unit and everything else.

The sound of both rooms is outstanding; we bought the house sight-unseen, and when I looked at the builder's online plans for the upstairs (that would ultimately become my audio listening environment), I was at first underwhelmed by the size of the rooms and lowish 8 foot ceiling height. When we actually came back about a month later for the first construction inspection, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the builder had deviated from the plans somewhat, and the rooms were actually larger than specified and the ceiling height was 9 feet. That greatly improved their chances of having decent acoustics (that has definitely been the case!), and even though I've only been here not quite a year, I have them completely dialed-in performance wise. The AudioQuest Niagara equipment and ADD-Powr Harmonic Resonators create an environment of almost complete quiet, with exceptionally black backgrounds and zero hash or other RF noise. Dave Clark always told me my old listening room was far too monochromatic and stark, so I've added lots of splashes of color in the new digs!

Every strategy we use in Audio Artist Rise Step-By-Step is battle-tested. The same systems have allowed me to transform my passion for audio into a fulfilling full-time career, working on a high level with clients and providing for my family.

(Priceless)

Headphones recreate that environment: a completely private space, just for the two of you. Mobile phones and the internet put anybody in the world in your pocket, and then headphones complete the gap. Remarkably, the rise of streaming audio (music, podcasts, audio books, internet radio) has only slightly dented radio listening statistics in America: almost all of this new streaming is additive to the audio we were already listening to.

Alex Thomen is a composer, producer, arranger, keyboardist, and audio engineer. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Kansas State University and a Master of Music in Commercial Composition and Arranging from Belmont University.

The concept of audio ducking is quite simple, and you can do it by hand with some keyframes on your audio clips directly inside Adobe Premiere Pro (or any other NLE). Otherwise, if you ever did it by hand, it is a relatively fast task on a 30sec edit, but it takes much more time on longer edits. To solve that problem and save you hours of work by hand, a company called Unimule has just released an audio plugin called Alex Audio Butler.

Sonic Practices is a graduate-level research group focused on acoustic, electronic, and/or computer-based means of sound production and reception. Participants explore audio culture and technology while developing experimental approaches to composition, performance, recording, and/or listening. Areas of investigation include, but are not limited to: audio programming languages, embedded/mobile computing for sound and music, spatial audio, sound synthesis, audio electronics, sonification and auditory display, electroacoustic music composition and improvisation, field recording and soundscape studies, sound installation and performance, and sonic interaction design. Each semester, course content changes in response to a new unifying theme upon which students base individual and team-based research projects. Meetings consist of discussions, workshops, critiques, and collaborations that support students' individual inquiries, the exchange of ideas, and the exploration of research methodologies.

Enter Alex Audio Butler, a plugin for Davinci Resolve [and Adobe Premier Pro] which purportedly does all the audio mixing for you! Does it work? Is it expensive? How do you use it? Got some examples of it in use? The answers to ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS is in the video below, so check it out!
