4) Fossil Free UCLA
Fossil Free UCLA is a campaign to rally the UCLA administration to divest its endowment fund from all fossil fuel "dirty energy" holdings. This is not only a economically sound choice given the downward trend of fossil fuel stocks, but it is a social and political statement that our university as an institution of education and service does not support the violation of human rights, environmental justice, and sustainability that burning fossil fuels cause.
We are collaborating with Fossil Free UC to rally the UC Regents; and this campaign is part of a national movement with Bill McKibben's "Do The Math" campaign on 350.org.
We are currently doing some research on the energy sector and working closely with six other UC campuses in Fossil Free UC in presenting reports on divestment and reinvestment to the UC Regents. We have presented to the Regents four times now from March to September with over sixty different students from California having attended.
We are also beginning to compile a list of academic and faculty senate members with whom any of us might have connections with. We plan to reach out to these individuals early in hopes of getting a faculty senate resolution passed and to begin constructing an advisory board for our campaign.
We currently do not have formal meetings but Alyssa Lee, the campaign director, will be holding Coffee Talks - similar to office hours, every Thursday from 3-5pm in Kerckhoff Coffee House! You can contact her at <alyssa.da...@gmail.com> or (209) 222-8872.
