1) Alumni Night! (2/25)
When: Tuesday, February 25thLight reception at 6:15, event starts at 6:30
Where: Life Sciences (LS) 2320

Interested in a career in sustainability? ESSN is hosting it's second annual alumni night 8th week! Come out to hear a UCLA alumni panel speak about their experiences post-graduation and their careers in the world of sustainability. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow Bruins and network with people working in a wide array of environmental careers. This is one of our few large events during the year so you definitely won't want to miss it! FREE FOOD!

2) Mentorship Event: California Winter Olympics
To celebrate 2014 being an even-numbered year, ESSN is Blue-Busing over to Santa Monica on the late morning of February 22nd (pending weather) for a social that will revolve around some friendly sporting events like frisbee and kickball.

Don't worry about athleticism or skill (you'll only be yelled at if you're on my teams). Just unwind with your mentee (if he or she can make it) and the rest of ESSN. If you're interested in going, reply with a yes and any games and/or activities you want to see.

Contact Emilio Ronquillo at eronqu...@gmail.com if you're interested in going along with a sport you think should be represented at the Olympics!

3) Renewable Energy Club at UCLA - Recruiting Officers & Members!

Dear Fellow Bruins,

Before I leave UCLA I wanted to make a Renewable Energy Club (solar, wind, biofuel, etc.) before I leave America Spring quarter! I have drafted up a constitution and will confirm an advisor in the next few days. I would like to meet with potential club leaders who are organized, assertive, motivated, and who are forward-thinking to help me start the club.

The purpose of this club would be for undergraduates and graduate students to learn about renewable energy through speakers series, conferences, and networking events. This club won't be limited to environmental science majors but will also branch out to the Anderson School of Business, Law School, and Engineering School.

Our club advisor and I are recruiting eight officer positions for 2014-2015:

1. president

2. vice president

3. secretary

4. treasurer

5. fundraiser

6. publicity chairs

7. social chair

8. webmaster

If you are interested in becoming an officer or member, please contact me by 2/21.

4) UCLA Law: Lecture by Alon Tal 2/4

UCLA Law’s Evan Frankel Environmental Law and Policy Program and the UCLA Nazarian Center for Israel Studies present:

Alon Tal
Noted Israeli environmentalist, lawyer, and former Green Party chair
Politics, Campaigns, and Green Parties: Lessons from Israel on How to Protect the Environment
Monday, February 24, 2014
12:15-1:20 pm UCLA School of Law, Room 1457
Lunch will be provided

Political campaigns are a necessary part of any overall strategy to protect the environment, because of deficits in existing laws and limitations on legal strategies. What roles do candidates, legislators, and campaigns for "green" and mainstream political parties play?  Alon Tal will address these issues in the context of current political dynamics in Israel, Europe, and the U.S.

Co-sponsored by the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, Jewish Law Students Association, and Environmental Law Society

5) Mentorship Sign Ups
Did you miss signing up for our mentorship program last quarter? Have no fear, our mentorship application is open again! If you are interested in either getting advice from a fellow undergraduate or mentoring one yourself, just sign up here! Sign ups are now rolling acceptance.

(This does not apply to those who have applied last quarter, so the mentor/mentee pairs from last quarter will stay the same. Only people who haven't applied last quarter can apply and will get paired up.)

Feel free to contact us if you have any more questions.

6) Stay updated...
