Dear Jay,

Sure. It is useful for people to know that the Summit is taking place, but the meeting is for invited people only. I hope you will be able to participate.

Best wishes,
Charlie

Subject: Earth & Space Science Informatics Summit

Dear Colleague,

An "Earth and Space Science Informatics Summit" is being held at the Villa Celimontana, Rome, 13-14th March 2008. The aim is to bring together key persons from organisations that support geoinformatics  programs to (i) raise awareness of each other's activities, (ii) identify areas of overlap, and (iii) seek ways to benefit from cooperation.

We wish to invite you or your representative to participate in this effort.

Villa Celimontana, the "Home of Geography", has kindly been made available to us by the International Geographical Union. The Villa is set amidst magnificent gardens in the heart of Rome, adjacent to the Colosseum. A fitting place for a prestigous event such as this Summit.

A draft plan for the Summit is attached, together with a list of people who are being invited. Your comments and suggestions about the plan and others to invite are most welcome. The number of participants must be limited if we are to achieve our purpose, so attendance has to be by invitation only.

We do hope you will be able to accept this invitation and look forward to your participation.

With best regards.

Dear Jay,

I'll put you down as "expected" for Rome. I'm sure you can find another reason for visiting Europe.
Sure - I'll produce an eGY contribution for earthzine. How many words? Any particular slant?
Best wishes,
Charlie

Charlie,
Since I seem to be in this technical area - sometines for love more than money - I will join if it coincides with another of my trips to Europe next winter. I should know in a couple of months.
Can we get an article for earthzine from you or your team? www.earthzine.com is you would like to look at it.
