Dear François,

Happy New Year. It was a great pleasure talking to you at the IHY Workshop in Ethiopia recently.

You can find information about the Electronic Geophysical Year (eGY) initiative at:  www.egy.org. This includes a list of suggested activities for people interested in participating. To access Working Documents:

I wish to draw your attention to the 'Earth and Space Science Informatics' Summit in Rome, 13-14th March 2008. The aim is to bring together the disparate 'geoinformatics' initiatives and programs that are sprouting everywhere (AGU, EGU, GSA, USGS, GEO, ICSU, IUGS, IUGG ...). It will be particularly valuable to include each of the 8 Geounions because of their closely linked data interests. For example, they could work towards a common geoscience mark up language for sharing data from distributed sources.

Is there anyone from URSI with interests in this area who might be able to attend? The meeting is unfunded, so participants must cover their own costs.

A plan for the meeting and a list of invitees is attached for your information. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
Charlie
