The Human-Computer Interaction & Usability Unit of the ICT&S Center at the University of Salzburg invites applicants for a PhD. position related to national and international research and cooperation projects.
The HCI Unit is doing research in the areas of Contextual User Experience, Contextual User Experience Measurement, Interface Simulation & Prototyping, Human-Robot Interaction, Automotive Interfaces, Factory Interfaces, Ambient Persuasion, Ambient Assisted Living and Networked Media. The Unit is running several projects including a Christian Doppler Laboratory on "Contextual Interfaces".
Task:
- Scientific work in the field of Human Computer Interaction and Usability & User Experience Engineering
- Research in the User Centered Design area, particularly UCD methods and tools
- Dealing strongly in field of study “Contextual Computing and Virtual Environments”
- Software Engineering in the HCI area with strong focus on Requirement Engineering
Requirements:
- A Master in / Background in Computer Sciences, Communication Sciences, Psychology, Sociology or related fields (behavioral science, design,…)
- Knowledge in the fields of Usability & User Experience, User Interface Design, User Interface Engineering, Software and Requirement Engineering within the HCI sector.
- Experience with using the research methods of empirical social science (SPSS, Interviews,…)
- An interest in interdisciplinary, scientific tasks
- Good command of the English language is essential
- Accuracy, the ability to work under pressure, flexibility and creativity
- The ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Outstanding initiative to work and learn, poise
- Experiences in research projects and/or project work advantageous
