The diablada of Pillaro

Devil masks flooded the streets of Pillaro (Tungurahua) in the first days of January. There are several stories behind this tradition, this year named the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The arrival of Christianity with the figure of the devil in the ancestors forged a "imp imagery that created this Diablada Pillareña. The rights of indigenous people against the oppression of the landlords was performed with this type of dancing in the streets.

Also, the tradition of the past to defend the men to women in their land created a ritual of rejecting the men from other places who wanted to conquer his women are masked devils and fought violently with each other to ward off intruders.

Hell, huarichas, sausages and neighbors filled the streets to live Diablada Pillaro
