SANCIONES ANTIDUMPING EN ESTADOS UNIDOS

Ayer concluyó la semana de verificación de precios y costos que el Departamento de Comercio de los Estados Unidos realizó en las oficinas de la Asociación de Cooperativas Argentinas en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Este lunes 16 y hasta el viernes 20 los funcionarios del DOC harán lo propio con la empresa NEXCO S.A.
Son las primeras verificaciones in situ que realiza el DOC en el marco de esta investigación iniciada en abril de 2021.
No hubo documentos significativos en el desarrollo de las demás investigaciones sobre la miel de Brasil, India o Vietnam, salvo la nominación de las dos empresas indias para la investigación del Segundo Período de Revisión que ya está en marcha. MEJORA DE PRECIOS RELATIVOS EN LA APICULTURA ARGENTINA

Hay tres indicadores directamente vinculados al costo de producción que mejoraron para el productor argentino.
Aún cuando el precio internacional de la miel tocó un piso muy bajo el pasado mes de abril, su relación con el costo de combustibles viene siendo mejor que durante el año pasado.
Más significativa ha sido la mejora respecto del precio del azúcar, importante insumo para la alimentación invernal. Y también es significativa la mejora respecto al costo de insumos para tratamientos sanitarios para la varroa. Los apicultores que preparan sus propias tiras para controlar al ácaro con ácido oxálico, con la formulación que publicamos en mayo de 2015 (Espacio apícola 112), han visto una reducción del precio de la glicerina y muy especialmente del ácido oxálico que habiendo superado los USD 4 por kg el año pasado, este año está debajo de 1,50 USD por kg. Es de esperar además que el SENASA de Argentina también flexibilice la autorización a los particulares a preparar sus propias tiras como el US-EPA lo está permitiendo. La demanda es particularmente de los productores orgánicos, cautivos de medidas burocráticas y estatistas.

NUTRICION DE LAS ABEJAS

Es llamativa la tendencia de los apicultores argentinos y particularmente de los criadores de abejas reinas, hacia la reformulación de los complementos nutricionales que usan para desarrollar las colmenas en la salida del invierno, como así también en el fortalecimiento de las colonias al final del otoño. Estas formulaciones están considerando el papel preponderante que tienen las bacterias intestinales de la abeja en su nutrición y fortalecimiento del sistema inmune (Espacio Apícola 142).
Es que también en estas formulaciones los costos relativos de algunos insumos mejoraron sustancialmente. La espirulina, que en Argentina el año pasado rondaba los USD 200 por kilogramo y que apicultores como Guillermo Sayt usaban en cantidades minúsculas (Espacio Apícola 140), este año, en el país se la está consiguiendo por debajo de los 30 USD el kg, lo cual mejora sustancialmente las oportunidades de optimizar el desempeño del colmenar.

SELECCION DE PIE DE CRIA EN APICULTURA

Con ocasión de cumplirse 25 años de las primeras conclusiones más sólidas de Marla Spivak en Minesota y John Harbo en Louisiana en lo que a selección de abejas resistentes a la varroa se refiere, hicimos una actualización de sus hallazgos, planteamos las nuevas tendencias que dominan algunos claustros académicos y entrevistamos a dos referentes de la selección de abejas reinas en la Argentina, líderes en la prosecución de alcanzar líneas de abejas más productivas para los distintos ecosistemas y demandas de los apicultores (Espacio apícola 144).

ANTI-DUMPING SANCTIONS IN THE UNITED STATES

The US Department of Commerce concluded in Buenos Aires its first week of Verification of honey prices and costs at the offices of the Argentine Cooperatives' Association (ACA) yesterday. The same officials will visit NEXCO S.A. offices to do the same next week from Monday 16th to Friday 20th.
These are the first on-site verifications carried out by the DOC within the framework of this investigation that began in April 2021.
There were no significant documents in the development of the other anti-dumping investigations on honey from Brazil, India or Vietnam this week, except for the nomination of the two Indian companies for the investigation of the Second Period of Review that is already underway. IMPROVEMENT OF RELATIVE PRICES IN ARGENTINE BEEKEEPING

There are three indicators directly linked to the cost of production that improved for the Argentine producer.
Even though the international price of honey hit a very low point last April, its relationship with the cost of fuel is better than during the previous year in Argentina.
More significant has been the improvement in the price of sugar, an important input for winter feeding. And also significant is the improvement in the cost of inputs for sanitary treatments against varroa. Beekeepers who prepare their own strips to control the mite with oxalic acid, with the formulation that we published in May 2015 (Espacio apícola 112), have seen a reduction in the price of glycerin and especially of oxalic acid at USD 1.50 per kg when its having exceeded USD 4 per kg last year. It is also to be hoped that Argentina's SENASA will make it more flexible to authorize individuals to prepare their own strips with oxalic acid, as the US-EPA is allowing. The demand is particularly from organic producers, captive to bureaucratic and statist measures.

BEE NUTRITION

The trend of Argentine beekeepers and particularly queen bee breeders towards reformulating the nutritional supplements they use to develop the bee colonies at the end of winter, as well as in strengthening colonies at the autumn, is striking. These formulations are considering the preponderant role that intestinal bacteria of the bee have in its nutrition and strengthening of the immune system (Espacio Apícola 142).
Also for these formulations the relative costs of some inputs improved substantially. For example the spirulina powder, which last year was around USD 200 per kilogram in the Argentine market and which beekeepers such as Guillermo Sayt used in minuscule quantities (Espacio Apícola 140), is now being obtained for less than USD 30 per kg, which substantially improves the opportunities to optimize the performance of the apiary.

SELECTION OF BROODSTOCK IN BEEKEEPING

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the first, more solid conclusions of Marla Spivak in Minnesota and John Harbo in Louisiana regarding the selection of resistant honey bees against varroa, we made an update of their findings, we raised the new trends that dominate some academic cloisters and we interviewed two referents of the queen bees selection in Argentina, leaders on the way to achieve  lines of more productive bees for the different ecosystems and demands of beekeepers (Espacio Apícola 144).
