ACTUALIZACION DE LA TEMPORADA APICOLA DE ARGENTINA 2025-2026

Recientemente ha habido mucha participación de apicultores en las distintas reuniones que se han hecho a nivel local convocadas por distintas empresas y hay mucha expectativa en la temporada que ya está en marcha.
Vaya como muestra una conversación que tuve en el día de ayer con un amigo que, el año pasado, me llamó diciendo que quería achicarse y vender algunas colmenas. Ayer tuvimos una larga charla sobre su interés en darles una buena tarta proteica al final de la temporada porque este año se le achicaron mucho las colmenas en la invernada y tuvo problemas de Nosema.
Con la inestabilidad propia de lo que está siendo este arranque temprano de primavera, mucho viento en agosto, hay lluvias, hay aumentos de temperatura, hay buen desarrollo de las cámaras de cría. Hay una demanda importante de abejas reinas y de tiras de cartón con ácido oxálico para no tener sorpresas con la varroa. Como señalamos a fines de julio, en la zona central, muchos apicultores movieron sus colmenas a la colza y en breve las estarán trasladando para la cosecha de miel de algarrobo (Prosopis spp.) del Parque Chaqueño (principalmente Córdoba y Santiago del Estero), a donde bajan también los trashumantes que iniciaron su temporada en el norte del país (Tucumán, Salta y Jujuy) donde, antes de moverse a las praderas, también cosechan la miel de atamisqui (Capparis atamisquea) y mistol (Sarcomphalus mistol, anteriormente Ziziphus mistol).

COMERCIO DE LA MIEL

Nos llama la atención que los informes mensuales del Mercado de la Miel que publica el USDA (Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos), al menos en los últimos tres meses y en referencia a lo que sabemos respecto a la Argentina, tienen errores muy notorios. Si bien el precio que han estado pagando los importadores estadounidenses no son una maravilla, los precios que informa el USDA para las mieles de Argentina están muy por debajo de lo que realmente se pagó. En el informe correspondiente al mes de julio pasado el USDA publicó que las mieles blancas (menores a 34 mm Pfund) de Argentina tuvieron un precio CFR (costo y flete) promedio de USD 1662 por tonelada, cuando para ese período los contratos CFR no bajaban de USD 2430. Errores de similar magnitud se dieron en las demás categorías y en los meses precedentes. Es una pena no contar con información creíble por parte del USDA. Esperamos que haya alguna comunicación que enmiende esa información errónea y restablezca la confianza en ese importante servicio.

EXPO APICOLA LAVALLE 2025

Nuestra edición 148 ya salió de imprenta y la estamos llevando a la Expo Apícola Lavalle que se desarrollará en Villa Tulumaya, Lavalle, Mendoza, este viernes 5 y sábado 6 de septiembre. Se trata de una exposición enclavada a la vera de un área de importante producción frutihortícola, desde ciruelos, manzanas y almendros hasta cultivos para la producción de semillas de cebolla, zanahoria o invernaderos de tomates y pimientos.

UPDATE OF ARGENTINE BEEKEEPING SEASON 2025-2026

A lot of beekeepers recently attended several local meetings organized by different companies. It is a great signal of the expectations on the current underway season.
As an example, I talked with a friend yesterday who called me last year saying he wanted to reduce his structure by selling some beehives. We had a long chat yesterday talking about how to provide the bees with a strong protein cake next fall because -he said- "this year my beehives shrank significantly during the winter, and I had problems with Nosema".
With the common climate instability of the early spring, a lot of wind in August, rain, rising temperatures, and good development of the brood chambers, there is a significant demand of queen bees and cardboard strips with oxalic acid to avoid surprises with varroa mites. As we reported at the end of July, in the central region, many beekeepers moved their beehives to rapeseed and will soon be moving them to harvest honey from algarrobo (Prosopis spp.) in the Chaco Park (mainly Córdoba and Santiago del Estero). Transhumants who began their season in the north of the country (Tucumán, Salta, and Jujuy) also travel to this area. Before moving to the grasslands, they also harvest honey from atamisqui (Capparis atamisquea) and mistol (Sarcomphalus mistol, formerly Ziziphus mistol).

HONEY TRADE

It is striking that the monthly Honey Reports published by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) contain very notable errors, at least to what we know about Argentina prices, for the last three months. While the prices US importers have been paying aren't fantastic, the prices reported by the USDA for honey from Argentina are far below what was actually paid. The USDA published a CFR average price of USD 1662.- per metric ton of white honey (less than 34 mm Pfund) from Argentina, when for that period CFR contracts were no lower than USD 2,430. Errors of similar magnitude occurred in other categories and in previous months. It's a pity. We hope there will be some communication to correct these errors and restore confidence in this important service.

LAVALLE BEEKEEPING EXPO 2025

Our 148th issue of Espacio Apícola has already been printed, and we are taking it to the Lavalle Api Expo, which will take place in Villa Tulumaya, Lavalle, Mendoza, this Friday, September 5th and Saturday, September 6th. This exhibition is close to an area of significant fruit and vegetable production, from plum, apple, and almond trees to seed production of onion or carrot and greenhouses for tomatoes and peppers.
