Hi everyone,

This is a totally self-indulgent post, so feel free to skip it. I don't want to drag this list off topic.

I've been a lot less involved with esp-open-rtos the last month or so. The reason is that I'm now an Espressif employee, working on the ESP32 "IoT Developer Framework" (ie SDK) team.

https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/

This hasn't left me with a lot of time for esp-open-rtos, and I can no longer be involved in any reverse engineering efforts. Although I'm trying to make some time to keep track of developments, and I'll supply useful information where I can.

ESP32's esp-idf is in several ways different to Espressif's previous ESP8266 development environments. It's Apache Licensed, and our goal is to move almost all non-RF functionality into source code. We're actively using github and encouraging community involvement. ESP32 also has a technical reference manual at the register level (the first release of this has been made, more chapters are in the pipeline). ESP32 is still very new, but that's the general direction we want to head (I take no credit for any of this).

Which is not to say that ESP8266 is going away, or that esp-open-rtos is in any way diminished - the community seems stronger than ever, and useful well-written functionality is flooding in. There may even be code/changes in esp-idf that can be ported.

I'll continue to be around, but I figured people will start noticing my name in Espressif commit logs so I should make a little announcement about this.

Cheers,

Angus

Hi Angus,

Your effort in EOR has been much appreciated and I hope the IDF turns out as great.

Cheers,
Johan
