Descend into the semi-darkness of certain caves and old, ancient structures and you might find the ultimate Halloween treat. These damp, dingy places are the perfect spot for goblins to hide their gold.
Actual goblins may be harder to find, but there are creatures that share their name lurking beneath bark, stones and leaf litter. Goblin spiders are tiny and pink. They emerge at night to hunt, sometimes scavenging prey from the webs of other spiders.
Ghosts 'n Goblins (known in Japanese as Makaimura, "Demon World Village") is a Hellishly-hard Platform Game from the 8-bit era, created by Capcom. It pits intrepid Knight in (and very frequently out of) Shining Armor Arthur against endless hordes of undead, demons, bats, and the titular ghosts and goblins in a quest to save his sweetie, Princess Prin-Prin, with only two hit points to his name.
Halloween dates back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts who lived 2,000 years ago celebrated their New Years on November 1st and this marked the official end of summer and the beginning of a dark, cold winter. The Celts believed that the night before November 1st, the boundaries between the living and the dead became a blur and during their festival of Samhain, ghosts were believed to come back from the dead and walk this earth. They believed that the presence of the spirits would help the Celtic priests to make predictions about the future.
The Nerd: So you get suited up in your knight's armor and set off to rescue your girlfriend, fighting off a never-ending army of ghosts n' goblins, and zombies, and devils, and ravens, and dragons, and squealing ghosts that look like pigs in a blanket. Yeah. I guess they couldn't fit all that in the title.
The Nerd: And now you're stuck with that shitty shield. Don't even try. You can't kill the Unicorn with the shield. It doesn't work. If someone else wants to try it, go ahead. You need the knife. So now, you gotta go ghostbusting. Kill those fuckin' ghosts until one of them drops a knife. Again, it's at pure random, so, expect to run the timer out a few times. And by this point, those annoying squeals the ghosts make will nearly drive you to break the fuckin' TV screen. (Ghosts make squealing noises and the Nerd mimics it) SHUT UP!!!
The real fun is Halloween night when large bands of kids roam the streets. First, the smallest ghosts and goblins come out to Trick or Treat before it gets too dark and they hit bedtime. Then, the middle group heads out. You know the ones. They\u2019re serious about their costumes and the treats. And last, the high schoolers hit the streets. Many in last-minute costumes because they spent the last few weeks thinking they were too old for trick or treating only to realize on Halloween night that they want to stay a kid for at least one more Halloween.
As those ghosts and goblins come knocking on your door Halloween night, let it be a reminder to plant some garlic around your yard. Come summer you\u2019ll be glad you did as you add your home-grown garlic to your recipes.
