Hi everybody,
i'm working on the configuration of ESOS on a box connected via FC to another host, I want to use it as a target backup device with mhvtl and lessfs.

I already setup the changer and the tape device, the backup host can see the device and Data protector see the drives and the slots, but when I try to format or scan a Tape I get this error:

Cannot load exchanger medium ([1117] The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

This is the device.conf

Hi Mike,

Its been a long time since I've worked with any tape stuff (physical
or virtual) so I'm a bit rusty... what command are you running that
provides that error message (mtx maybe)? What does the output of
'lsscsi -g' look like and how about the contents of '/proc/scsi/scsi'?
I assume you're getting this error directly on the ESOS machine itself
before even attempting to share the tape device via the SAN.

When I was playing with lessfs, I was always having trouble keeping the lessfs mount point online on the ESOS storage.  Working with the lessfs config file help a lot by tuning some DB buffers.  Check your lessfs logs on ESOS and see for some errors.  Check if your mounts are still accessible on ESOS.

Hi Marc,
the error come directly from backup software which is hp data protector.
Now I'm isolating the problem on esos and I see that I cannot load a tape also with mtx command.

Anything interesting in the kernel logs (/var/log/kern.log)? This may
be a question to pass up to the mhVTL dude... I looked on their
site/pages, but didn't see a mailing list. So might be worth
submitting a issue on his GitHub page -- hes pretty responsive.

Thansk so mutch Marc.

Yes is pretty a problem of mhvtl device configuration, I found a device configuration that partially works.
I see only one drive and the backup starts but ends with message "cannot write to medium"... now should be a problem of lessfs.

Anyway I go on.

Thanks
