Dear all inquisitive learners new and old,

"Canadians,Americans,Brits and Australians may all speak the same
language,but they don't do it
the same way.
How a single word comes out in a novel can depend on a lot of
things..."

To learn a language is to embrace the whole aspects of culture!

I hope you'll take a look at this article and perhaps enjoy reading it
till the end!;)

Here it is:

Hi Jason C, people who can not log on the web banned by your censorship,

Follow the steps on the link https://store.opendns.com/setup/operatingsystem/windows-xp  .

I tested it successfully when skimming on the Facebook but it runs more slowly then normal, you know.

It can be helpful I hope

But I use English only whenever I write to them...
After all,it's English that brought us together, isn't it?LOL

Dear Pln and all,

Actually, that will be my 23th birthday, you might know there is a culture in China that is people always tend to tell others their "Void Age", maybe my translate is not right, in another words, that is people always tell others their actual age add one year. Could you understand me? And what about other lovely friends?

Have a nice day to all!!

Hello Pln, Jason, Jun and all

First of all, I had never imagined a novel needed to be translated from English into English. If there are many words, slangs and idioms that need to be changed between British, Australian and US English, what can be said about other languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, etc... How much meaning of a novel can be missed when it´s translated?

You´re right, English brought us togueter although all these languages ou have in your facebook profile. Indeed, English is the universal language, isn´t it?

Jason, why do people in China say their actual age plus 1? Here it´s common to see the opposite, people hiding their real age as they get older. LOL
And Happy birthday!!

Have a nice Tuesday!

Jason C, Is this working? I mean the tip can resolve your problem. I remembered that Facebook is banned in your country, China, as Charles said.

Charles, you can try following the steps on the link, I hope that it can pass the censorship’s eyes LOL

Hello Pln Oshiro and all,

Oshiro, thank you very much. With reference to your question, I would like to tell you the specific reason, but actually I don't konw exactly either. Maybe because of the culture difference. It is just a tridition which is handed from our old generation. However, nowadays due to the communication between the east and west cultures, more and more Chinese women tend to become the opposite as you mentioned.LOL

Have a nice day to all !!!

What animated discussions on censorship and age you have had here!LOL

Since you brought it up,Jason,I did recall this old custom of Chinese
culture!
If I remember it correctly, according to Chinese, since you were in your
mother's womb,you're considered 1 year old already.
Perhaps that's why we are always 1 year older than our real age.:)

However, since I began to learn English and other langauges,I also have
learned to tell my age in a western way.
It's as logical as telling foreigners which floor/storey we live on.If
we don't specify it,it's very confusing just like you confused me
earlier!LOL

That is simply another aspect of another culture which we need to pay
attention to when we acquire another language and I myslef find it
interesting.:)

As for a woman keeping her age as a secret or lying about her age,I
find it hilarious whenever I hear them say,"I'm 18 this year and I
shall be 18 forever!"
By the way,I'm 43 and heading for 44 on January 5th!LOL

And Jun,I would like to you to help Hoang,Lalala Ly and other
Vietnamese friends out on facebook by giving them a link to bypass the
censorship.

Thank you all and what a quiet day here today...
Good night!
Pln

Dear Pln, and all

Charles and Jason C, Vera, perhaps Vietnam and China have common in culture. We also add one year to the real age and the added age is used to calculate the year appropriate for married. So, it is the difference from Western's culture.
Dear Pln, as I wrote before, you can send them the link and following the steps. I also did like that and pass successfully.
Or if they need a help more details, you can send them my skype account. I can assist them freely, especially the girls LOL

Dear all,

About the question how old are you ... It's a complicate question. older lady want to be yong, but little girl and young man want to be the big one, who always pretend that they are old enough to take the responsibility.

My opinion is ... the older, the better. I looks like a old man but being full of energy. So, for the people who is born in 1985-9-28, Their age is 24.xx .

Nice day to you good people

Hello all sweet boys and girls,LOL

If the older means the wiser, that's wonderful...like me!LOL

I am regarded as a crazy and energetic teacher by all my Polish

There's one group of 7 students that I started to co-teach with a

They began to speak English with an amusingly lively intonation and I
realized later that they picked it up from me!LOL

Hi all dear friends

Let's begin the party having english group talks. What are we still waiting for?

Oshiro, I really believe that man who looks older is better for their social relationships. Other people want man being mature and taking responsibility.
Nobody believes young boys. And no matter we admit or not, we judge people from their appearance in such a high speed developing sociality.

Nice day to you and all

Hello Charles Jun Chaya Oshiro and all others,

Chaya,so sorry to learn that you don't have time for this group at the
moment.
Click on the top right 'Edit my membership',you will see the box
'unsubscribe' at the bottom.
http://groups.google.com/group/eslpodcast/subscribe
Click on it,and it's done!:(

Charles,it's sad but you had a point there that people generally judge
a book by its cover...
Why do you think a lot of men in some countries grow beards?:)
One of the reasons is to hide their younger age.

Jun,if she's that easily jealous,...which I doubt it...get rid of her!
Or maybe I should ask her to get rid of you!LOL

Sorry,merely joking,of course!

Oshiro,now you're confusing me!
You're 28,but wish to claim 1 year younger if you would ever go to
China...just to achieve the opposite!
Am I right or wrong?:(

One news to break to you all interested in Skype group talks.
My husband's Asian trip is cancelled, and I won't be able to join you
on the weekend night talks.
As long as it's day time during the week days,it'll be better for me.
Let me check my schedule first and I'll get back to you on the precise
day and time ASAP!:(

Great week ahead and good night!

Hello Pln, Claire, Charles, Jun, Jason and all

Pln, I´m 26 according to ocidental culture and 27 in Chinese culture, because if I got it right, in China people claim to be 1 year older because they start counting since the baby is in her mom´s womb, isn´t it?

Charles, I agree with you, a mature one cause other a good sense of responsability and trustworthy. I recall when I was working at one company where they hired a new manager to take over our department. We were drawing a picture of a very serious mid-age man as the stereotypes we are used to see. When he presented himself for us, we got impressed by his young age and at first glance, I thought he wouldn´t be able to be in charge of that area. As time passed by, he showed everybody he was a great professional with much responsability and good skills for his position.
Pleasant day for you all
Oshiro
