Hi Pauline!!!

Interesting and funny story you posted in the link. I didn't know Yummy meant "Delicious".

Well, I have already told you all the meaning of my surname. Oshiro means "Big castle".
I've done some research about my first name, Rafael. As I've seen, Rafael comes from Spanish and is a variant from Raphael, from Hebrew. The meaning is "God has healed". I don't know if this is the real meaning.

The history about my name is easy. "André" is from "Santo André", that is a name of a Apostle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Andrew).

Well, Santo André is the name of the city where I live, too. And also the name of soccer team that I follow! ;)

But, about "Barbosa", I don´t know... this is a very, very, very popular surname here in Brazil. Problably there is a name with origin on Portugal.

Hi Pauline, Ed and all members!

About my name, after searching in Google, i have discovered that it is a composition of Rose plus Ângela (ROSÂNGELA). Greek, it means angelical rose.

Now, i am waiting to know the meaning of the name of all other members.

God bless you all.

Hi Oshiro Andre Rosa and all,

Let me try to explain my Chinese name in short.
Anyone who has received my private e-mail knows that "Lin" is my
maiden name.
It consists of two same roots:log, and when they're combined,it changes
to "woods or forest."

Chinese people write our surnames/family names first, then first names
which usually contains two characters, but a lot of Chinese from China
like Liu has only one-character first name.;)

My first name is rather musculine and unusual. The first character is
"Li" which means sharp, useful, profitable or victorious.Another
character with the same pronunciation means "beautiful" which I didn't
like when I was younger because it is too common.;)

And the last character of my first name is "Hwa" which means flower.

So there you go,I was born to be an environmentalist or a nature
worshipper,wasn't I?
"Pauline" is just my English name I chose for myself when I was 16
years old.I didn't like the name "Linda"my very first English teacher
from Iowa gave me...

I've got to go!My 2nd boy is down again with throat and ear infection!
Take good care of yourselves, everyone! My one message a day. How's
that?;)

BEST,
Pauline

Hi Rosa and friends,

Mine (Pablo) means: small, humble. I'm not small, I'm a bit big in
comparison to the average Colombian people, and I'm 78 kg and 1.78 m.
I don't know how humble I am, but my life is modest. The origin of
the name Pablo is latin.

Best regards,

Pablo

Oh,so sorry for the confusion,my friends!

First of all, thank you Rosa and Alireza for your kind e-card and
words!;)

I was born in Taiwan, but no idea which generation I belong to since my
ancestors moved from the Southern Province of China to Taiwan.A lot of
people have no clue why I speak Chinese, too.
Taiwanese,as I hear from others, very similar to the dialect of the
southern province,FUJIEN(?)used to be a dialect which was spoken in
private among families and friends only. The official language has been
always Chinese.I only learned to speak it,but I can't write or read
it.The government has been trying to teach the younger generation how
to do it,but in a very unnatural way.

I have had problems explaining this confusion, especially when I was at
the customs at the airports or when I had to renew my visas.(The
official name of Taiwan is R.O.C. Republic of China, and China is
P.R.O.C. People's of Republic of China)
According to the Chinese government,Taiwan is a part of China. So I
don't want to get into details of all the politics...it's a
heartbeaking history back in the year of 1949.

I often tell others,I'm culturally Chinese, but politically or
geographically am not...We absorb all of the heritage from ancient
Chinese traditions, customs, beliefs and philosophies. We read and write
traditional Chinese as the ancient Chinese did,but Chinese in China
read and write simplified Chinese. We can understand each other
verbally without many problems. It's like British English and American
English.
It's kind of like South Korea and North Korea, and like East Germany
and West Germany before.

So I'm a Taiwanese for sure, and if I call myself Chinese is also
true,isn't it?Got it now,Andre and Oshiro?;)

Pauline Lin-Nerent(A.K.A. also known as Lin Li-Hwa):)
Confused again?!LOL

Hi Ria and all friends!

It is true Ria, "to smile" in portuguese is "sorrir," and ria is a reduced form of saying sorria.
For exemple:
I want that you always smile  - Eu quero que você sempre sorria
reduced form:                         Eu quero que você sempre ria

So, let's keep smiling and thanking God for everything that he has given to us.

Yesterday a friend from USA sent me a mail with a quote that i liked a lot.
It says:
"Life isn't about getting through the storms....It's about learning how to dance in the rain...."

I hope see you all

I never had curious to know what my name mean... so I take a look on google now

Variant of Edward: Wealthy guardian. From the Old English name Eadweard, meaning rich or happy, and guardian. Famous bearer: King Edward the Elder, son of Alfred the Great; Edward VIII, who abdicated in 1936 to be with the divorced woman he loved.

Amazing!!!! Between Rich and Happy I need just more money LOL

I didn't know China and Taiwan were soooo close, and didn't know about the names of those countries. R.O.C. and P.R.O.C.
So, you're are a multilingual and multicultural person hehehe.
It's good you know the dialect your antecedents used to speak, because when time goes by, fewer people speak dialect.

My mom speak some Okinawa dialect, and it's always extinct.

According with Google

Version 1

My name has an Greek origin. It means "God of War".

Enyo (in Greek Mythology) is responsible for orchestrating the
destruction of cites, often accompanying Ares into battle, and
depicted "as supreme in war". Enyo was an ancient godness of war.

But don't worry. I'm a very peaceful guy.

Version 2

"Ênio" means predestinate and indicate a balanced and a practical
person. It's a person who knows how to deal with conflicts. It's a
person who everyone seeks for orientation.

According with my father is the name of his father's uncle.

Yeah Oshiro,
I'm multilingual and multicultural "from head to toe"!;)

I remember when I was 16,some political-oriented foreign teachers
taught us"Taiwanese" was a language instead of a dialect,we were so
shocked by their announcement...
Later after we became more prosperous and influential in the world,I
realized we were so brainwashed to believe such false
propaganda(Taiwanese as a dialect)for so many years.
Besides,it's nice to know we,after becoming familiar with English, were
qualified to be called multilingual if Taiwanese was a
language,weren't we?

I wish all dialects and languages could last as long as possible!
Global village shouldn't mean monolingual or monocultural...It's a
horrible world to be for someone like me...who dies for diversity and
variety.

Best,
Pauline
P.S.How are the woman employers treating you at work? Are they bearable?
LOL

I totally agree with you,Dantas,
For it has been a true pleasure reading origins of each name from

Names aren't just names to me anymore because they became alive once I
understood its meanings...

Wrong,Oshiro!
Even if Taiwanese was a dialect,I'm still multilingual because I need

broken French with long lost friends, and Taiwanese with my mom on the
