Scenethat I re-used for a series and worked fine for 30+ images now started acting up. First I got "Error during rendering" / "Renderer is in use" messages which required me to reboot the entire machine to get rid of in the first place but not permanently until I lowered SubD - if Daz can't do the calculations due to lack of system resources or whatever, I'd much appreciate if at least it closed its failed sub processes properly. It got to the point where it could release an error message so it knows it has reached that point.

Then I continued on that scene and eventually it stopped going to Iray preview, it sits there stuck in clay stage until I wiggle the camera, then Iray flashes through but falls back to clay once the camera it still.

Another issue I've seen that can cause the iray preview to stall is if a polygon heavy clothing item, or the main character itself, has smoothing enabled and I make an adjustment to the character. At the bottom of the UI, it will say 'Applying Mesh Smoother' - it seems iray is waiting for the mesh smoother to finish but in the meantime is interfering with the mesh smoothing from finishing. In reality, the mesh smoother should stop iray from trying to render until it's finished rather than iray trying to run concurrently.

Is it possible that the Accurate (Iray) renderer is only partially implemented in Isaac Sim, or did I miss some other option to change the renderer? Being able to use the Iray renderer would be crucial for me, as some very complex materials do not work with the other two renderers.

Yes you cannot simply overide the iray system with that flag. You have to go to your Extensions Manager in Issac Sim and find the iray rendering extension and enable it. The entire extension is off by default now. So you have to load it before you can use it. Do not edit the code flags.

The issue also occurs for me when the extensions omni.hydra.iray, omni.iray.libs and omni.iray.settings.core are enabled. Those extensions for me are enabled by default when I launch Isaac Sim via the Isaac Sim App Selector. Are there any other extensions which I would need to enable?

I am posting this here because Iray and OptiX teams are in my understanding dependent and thus work closely together so I hope this will be read by NVIDIA developers and managers who decided to make those changes, rethink their decisions, and provide workarounds.

To understand why it is a breaking change, you need to understand a bit of history. Iray was (and in my opinion still is despite the improvements that made use of light portals obsolete) not really great when it comes to interior lighting.

Hi @igor.levicki, I need to reiterate that the OptiX forum is just not the place for either DAZ or Iray support. Nobody on the Iray team is monitoring this forum on a regular basis, because this is not a channel for Iray-specific concerns.

The Iray team, in turn, is not the place for DAZ support. It really would be best to take up your concerns with the features you want to see in DAZ, as well as with how DAZ is supporting and managing changes to the software it relies on, directly with the DAZ team, so that DAZ is aware of what you need and can request whatever support they need from the Iray team.

What I am getting out of all this is that they are washing their hands, and now NVIDIA is washing their hands as well. So we have two companies playing the blame game, while the paying customers of both companies are stuck in the middle as a collateral damage.

As far as I am aware, DAZ is earning all their revenue through commissions from their 3D asset store, and DAZ Studio application itself can be downloaded and used for free just by signing up for a DAZ account.

Apparently there is now a new solution in Daz for ghost lights (plus it also exposes the brandnew guided sampling of Iray to speed up indoor scenes!): Daz Studio 4.20 Volumetric Clouds, Smoke, and Fire Effects - Daz 3D Blog

Simplest solution would be to add an advanced iray node property that can disable the opacity multiplication for a surface (basically disable the bugfix). That way, the new default would be an accurate light simulation like it was supposed to be, but it would allow us to set it on ghost light surfaces so they can continue to work as they did before.

Another solution would be to add a new fully invisible light source to Iray, but that would require much more work from NVIDIA to implement, then from DAZ to expose that functionality in their product, and finally from customers to replace all ghost lights with those new lights.

Finding and fixing all that in existing scenes is going to be a massive amount of work for customers even without having to deal with LPE complexity, multiple render passes, and compositing, not to mention that not many of them even know what LPEs are, much less how to use them.

When using Advanced Iray Node property IGLF (Iray Ghost Light Factor) to control visibility of ghost light reflection in surfaces such as glass (glass - solid - clear) or metal (silver - polished), setting IGLF to 2 is enough to hide the ghost light reflection from such surfaces.

lol yes actually those see-through parts in the image r not visible to camere so that i can get a 3d floor plan render but as u know iray is physcally correct so even if the object is invisible to camere, iray ignores it here is a mentalray render of the same geometry.

its very weird man, i thought it didnt support generic autodesk materials so i switched to a&d mats, the living room is fine now but when i change something, another object becomes invisible for instance i applied a&d mat to a desk in the bedroom, then it became visible. but the tv on the table became invisible. oh and tv's legs were visible so naturally i thought it was material issue and i applied override material from render dialog and applied a standard mat. now the tv was visible but the wardrobe doors were invisible im going insane it does the same thing with both ies lights and standard photometric lights and also with daylight only

I was going to suggest checking the materials. We were rendering a scene in Mental ray last week and one of my accessories was invisible in the render. When I looked into it it had v-ray materials assigned instead of A&D. I had two versions of the accessory with different materials and put the wrong one in the scene. The weird thing was I had no error messages in the render.

i dont have vray, all the materials r a&d and i unchecked backface culling. i started a new scene and it does the same thing everything is visible accept the walls im going crazy here.. i guess i need to format my system

iray ignores that because iray is physical.. and anyways only half of the wall was invisible to camera. i started a new file, whole wall object is visible to camera but it doesnt appear in the render
