Chief Seismologist
The role demands a relevant degree or diploma in Mathematics/Physics and/or Earth Sciences and/or
Rock Engineering Certificates. A COM Rock Engineering Certificate, professional registration in Rock
Engineering and Master’s degree in Mathematics/Physics and or Earth Sciences are preferred.
Duties and responsibilities include managing the seismological function through the provision of
assistance and advice to management, to ensure the stability of underground workings, prevent
unplanned and unwanted interruptions to production cycles and produce safe working areas.

 
Chief Operating Officer (SA Operations)
This sought-after position has become available for a consummate professional with an applicable
tertiary qualification (eg BSc Mining Engineering or equivalent), a Mine Manager’s Certificate of
Competence and substantial mining experience. Any additional qualifications, eg an MBA or, will be
advantageous.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President: South African Operations and responsible for Regional
growth, Uranium Project, Technology and Innovation, Government Relations, Finance and HR.

Manager: Social and Labour Plan
Corporate Office
Applicants must have a tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field, 5 years’ experience
with a proven track record in performing large-scale transformation-related initiatives and extensive
Change Management experience.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Ensuring that the SLP contributes in its entirety to the Group’s
long-term business strategy l Developing, implementing and maintaining the SLP management

Senior Environmental Co-ordinator
The successful candidate for this role will have a tertiary qualification in Environmental Management,
Natural Sciences or a related field and 5 years’ relevant experience in Environmental Management,
with a proven track record in reporting and assurance activities. Registration with a relevant
professional body, eg SACNASP and experience in GRI reporting and compiling Annual Reports would
be advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Co-ordinating the SA Region’s environmental reporting
process l Conducting desktop research/benchmarking l Formulating reports related to pertinent
Environmental Management issues l Analysing and interpreting data, reports and other publications
l Contributing towards legal compliance and the implementation of the Environmental Management

Unit Manager: Health and Safety
In order to qualify for this role, applicants must have a Grade 12, a NADSAM/equivalent, a Risk
Management Certificate and Health and Safety auditing experience. An FPA Intermediate certificate,
good working knowledge of computers and databases, proficiency in English, relevant experience with
at least 4 years in a senior position and professional registration (eg with the ISM) are also essential.

Superintendent: Procurement Specialist
Shared Services Area
This specialist position requires applicants to hold a formal commercial, legal and/or other relevant
tertiary qualification, have a minimum of 3 years’ contract negotiation and commercial experience and
demonstrate management, financial and negotiating competencies.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Providing commercial leadership aimed at reducing the total
cost of ownership of commodities, products and services purchased by Gold Fields l Legal and
contractual monitoring and refinement l Participating in commercial negotiations, contracting and
ongoing vendor management l Managing and negotiating contractual and legal relationships with

Stopers, Developers and General Miners
In order to be successful in this role, applicants must have a Blasting Certificate for scheduled mines
and previous mining experience (eg stoping, development, tramming and night shift cleaning).
Duties and responsibilities include: l Overseeing production and safety in the underground sections
l Adhering to the Mine’s Safety Code of Practice and Mineral Act and Regulations.

Area Superintendent: Metallurgy
Applicants require a National Higher Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy/BTech/BSc Chemical or
Metallurgy, or a valid Area Superintendent Accreditation certificate issued by GFBLA. Plant experience
and additional management/technical training are imperative, as is a minimum of 4 years’ experience
in a supervisory position in the Metallurgical environment.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Ensuring that your section complies legally with Environmental,
Health and Safety requirements, as well as with labour regulations l Planning, scheduling and problemsolving
of all activities in your area of responsibility l Managing and controlling all processes and
maintenance in your section l Managing your section to achieve production targets within your cost
constraints l Driving projects and various productivity initiatives l Maintaining a risk management and
performance management approach to all activities l Developing and planning the budget for your
section l Utilising performance management systems to improve performance levels of subordinates

Electricians, Fitters, Boilermakers, Riggers and Diesel Mechanics
These positions require candidates to be in possession of an appropriate Trade Certificate (eg
Qualified Artisan) and have a minimum of 2 years’ experience. Applicants must exhibit excellent oral
and written English communication skills and be prepared to work extended hours on an ad hoc
basis.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Carrying out maintenance, repairs and installations as
applicable to the specific trade and area l Troubleshooting and fault-finding l Ensuring proper
discipline in the relevant section l Ensuring full compliance to Health and Safety regulations.

Geologists
Applicants must have a BSc (Honours) or National Higher Diploma in Geology, computer literacy in
Microsoft Office, good written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of structural geology,
sedimentology and Witwatersrand-type deposits. Experience in an underground mining environment is
essential, whilst knowledge of information systems, geological modelling software and geostatistics
would be advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Managing all geological functions for an underground section
l Mapping of development and stoping, report writing and problem-solving l Borehole layouts, logging,
sampling and information management l Geological hazard identification and reporting l Updating all
plans and geology models regularly l Ensuring that all geological processes and procedures meet with

Rock Mechanics Engineer/Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer
This dynamic and senior role requires a COM Rock Engineering Certificate and a minimum of 2 years’
experience in Rock Engineering.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Compiling mining design and layout l Numerical modelling of
mine design l Controlling the budget l Designing underground support l Monitoring and analysing

Production Supervisor
Applicants need a Blasting Certificate for scheduled mines, a Production Supervisor’s Certificate and
at least 4 years’ relevant mining experience.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Planning, directing, controlling and leading an underground
section of the mine l Ensuring safe quality of work and achieving production targets l Ensuring full
compliance to Managerial Standards, the Mine’s Safety Codes of Practice and the Mineral Act and

Unit Managers: Engineering
Applicants must have a BSc or NHD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, a Government Certificate
of Competency for Mines (GCC) and at least 2 years’ experience in the engineering field. The ability to
meet diverse engineering challenges within the broad scope of safety, productivity improvement and
new technology within the engineering field is essential.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Being appointed in accordance with Reg 2.13.1 or 2.13.3.1 for
the safe maintenance and operation of day-to-day activities of the department l Implementing and
monitoring effective engineering maintenance standards l Driving life cycle costing, availability and
efficiency projects across all aspects of mine engineering l Organising, leading, managing and
controlling all resources within the appointed area l Identifying problems in technical management and
HR aspects and suggesting and implementing remedial action l Managing KPAs of subordinates.

Senior Surveyor
Applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent with Maths and Science as subjects, a
Chamber of Mines Advanced Survey Certificate and at least 2 years’ proven experience in an
underground mining environment. Computer literacy and knowledge of GMSI pegs are essential, whilst
a COM Advanced Valuation Certificate would be advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Performing general survey work associated with underground
mining l Conducting contract measurements in stopes and development l Managing check surveys,
gyro surveys and close surveys l Training and developing subordinates. (Ref. SS NOV08)
Underground Technician (Instrumentation)
This role requires that applicants have an N6 or S4 certificate and sound knowledge of PLCs, system
integration, instrumentation, PID control circuits, compressors, fridge plants and winders (safety and
control circuits). Candidates must be computer literate in “In Touch” and Windows. A National Diploma
in Instrumentation and Control Circuits will be highly advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Supporting the responsible engineering sections with regards
to the safe operation of winders, fridge plants, compressors and instrumentation in both the surface
and underground environments l Performing System Integration of all related instrumentation and
control circuits l Maintaining Central Power Control Room operation and functionality.

Unit Manager: Mining/Shaft
A BSc in Mining Engineering or a National Diploma in Mining is required for this position, as is a Mine
Manager’s Certificate of Competency. Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal and problemsolving
skills are essential, as is computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Applying knowledge of Rules and Regulations within the
Mining Operations l Actively participating in the maintenance of the requirements of the Mine’s Health
and Safety Act and Safety Regulations l Preparing short- and long-term plans and developing
appropriate strategies l Handling emergency situations and general management functions l Providing

Underground Winding Engine Driver
Applicants need a Grade 12 or equivalent, Banksman or Onsetter’s certificate and an appropriate,
recognised Winding Engine Driver Certificate of Competency. Also essential are knowledge of
abnormal slinging operations and good communication and reporting skills, while shaft envelope and
competency assessment training would be advantageous.

Occupational Environment Technician
Applicants require a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent, an intermediate certificate in Mine Environmental
Control and at least 3 years’ experience in an Occupational Environment Department.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Area monitoring and inspection l Compiling occupational
environment reports l Participating in risk assessments and audits as required l Troubleshooting and
investigating l Liaising with other Departments l Compiling ventilation layouts l Identifying problems
and making recommendations to improve environmental conditions l Compiling and interpreting trends
and statistics l Initiating knowledge dissemination of relevant legislation and Mine Standards/
Procedures l Basic planning and budgeting l Co-ordinating ventilation construction work.

GIS Expert
Department: Ground Stability Group
In order to be successful in this role, applicants must have a degree in Computer Science, Information
Technology or a related field (a relevant postgraduate degree is preferred) and at least 3 years’
relevant experience with GIS. Candidates must be able to gather information through sourcing,
identification and validation.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Implementing and managing the GIS system l Maintaining and
updating data on a daily basis l Retrieving stored maps l Meeting regularly with users to define data
needs and/or project requirements and/or required outputs l Conducting research to locate and obtain
existing databases l Compiling geographic statistics to incorporate a variety of sources l Preparing

Vice President and Head of Operations
Applicants must have a relevant tertiary qualification from a registered institution (may be in the field
of Mining Engineering, Commerce and/or Business Economics/Administration), supported by a
minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining engineering or the production of precious metals and
general management. Professional registration (eg SACNASP or SAICA, etc) is important. A
postgraduate qualification in Business Administration/Business Leadership is preferred.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Providing strategic direction on and weaving together into a
unified whole, all aspects of organisation-wide systems for the Company to meet its challenges over
5- to 10-year timeframes l Timeously pre-empting environmental changes that may demand the
development of new strategies, to ensure alignment with external trends and demands so as to
enhance market relevance, profitability and shareholder value as well as relevance of contribution
l Motivating the Company to continually experiment, research and develop through innovation as far
as product, process and service is concerned l Actively pre-empting national shifts in political ideology,
legislation, economic direction, labour profiles and technological developments to: * Enable
precautionary company alignment * Actively influence and lobby national bodies and decision-making
forums in the process of co-designing a business, relevant to the external environment, that will result

Manager: Mineral Resources
Candidates must be in possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in Geology, Survey or Mining
Engineering. Our ideal individual is a competent person in terms of the SAMREC Code. A GDE or
Geostatistical, Planning or Financial qualification will be advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Identifying and defining resources l Mineral resource longterm
detailed strategy and strategic mine planning (Reserves) l Making recommendations regarding
investment in and/or disinvestments from ore body, based on impact on the longer-term company
profile, profitability objectives as well as shareholder value l Making decisions regarding investment in
and/or disinvestments from processing operations to support ore body utilisation l Comprehensive
strategic Gold Accounting l Balancing resource availability to ensure the maximum profitability ratios
for product delivery to market l Managing the contributions as well as ensuring the consulting
contributions to mining operations in the following areas: Survey, geology, planning, evaluation,

Manager: Human Resources
We seek a person with an Honours B degree/Higher Diploma in Human Resources Management (NQF
7) who has distinguished himself/herself as a generalist at a senior level in Human Resources
Management (preferably in the mining industry). Professional registration (eg SABPP) and a good
network of appropriate professional contacts within and outside the Company will be advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include: l In liaison with key stakeholders, assisting to define the relevant
elements of the Human Resources strategy from the business strategy and accountability for
implementation l Manpower and succession planning, staffing, employment equity, transformation,
employee relations, wellbeing, industrial relations, training and development l Mentoring and coaching,
career and learning pathways l Managing talent (including mobility) l Budgeting and cost control.

Geostatistician/Section Evaluator
Applicants must have a formal tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Natural Sciences or Survey
plus a proven track record in the gold mining industry, with 5 years’ experience at an appropriate level.
Proficiency in Geostatistics/Evaluation Modeling (2D as well as 3D) of Witwatersrand-type ore bodies
is essential, and the ideal candidate will have a good appreciation of the interaction of Geostatistics
with Geology, Mining, Metallurgy and Economics. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, information
systems and relevant geological and resource modeling packages (particularly Datamine) is essential,
as is experience in validating and integrating datasets and establishing robust resource models. We
seek a person who displays good verbal, written and presentation skills in English. Registration as a
Competent Person, as defined by the SAMREC Code, is important. A working knowledge of Datamine,
Cadsmine and geostatistical packages, with either SACNASP or Plato and a GDE major in
Geostatistics, will be advantageous.
Duties and responsibilities include taking responsibility for the geostatistical modeling, reconciliation

Senior Manager/Manager: Operations
The ideal candidate will have a BSc degree or National Higher Diploma in Mining Engineering, as well
as a Mine Manager’s Certificate and a minimum of 8 years’ appropriate managerial experience in
mining. He/she is a consistent performer and problem solver who is strategy- and vision-orientated and
can communicate well and build relationships.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Achieving business/operational results, which include meeting
targets for Business Unit performance, including Risk/Health, Safety and Environmental targets,
Production and Efficiency targets and Resource Optimisation targets l Achieving leadership results,
which include operational plan, project and subordinate performance management.

Mine Overseer
The minimum requirements are a Grade 12 and a Mine Overseer’s Certificate of Competence. Special
skills include a proven track record as Production Supervisor and the ability to safely and effectively
lead and motivate a production section.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Planning and setting objectives with regards to production,
costs, health and safety and labour requirements l Implementing business decisions l Offering
assistance in making provision for unit requirements in overall budget inputs l Appropriately

Employee Relations Manager
The successful applicant will be a graduate or a diplomate (NQF 5), preferably with a postgraduate
qualification in Employee Relations or Human Resources (NQF 6) and at least 5 years’ relevant
experience in an unionised environment. He/she will have been exposed to, and participated in,
collective negotiations and the interpretation and drafting of agreements.
Duties and responsibilities include: l Collective bargaining l Formulating policies l Preparing reports

The successful candidate will hold a CIA and relevant degree or higher diploma in Internal Auditing or
Accountancy and have at least 3 to 5 years’ post-articles experience in an internal audit department.

Duties and responsibilities include: Participating actively and adding value in the process of
planning and executing audit projects in order to evaluate management controls, processes and
systems from a holistic perspective and to identify areas that expose the Company to criminal or
