Hi Team ESGA -

I hope you all are enjoying this summer break.

I wanted check in and catch up on a few things:
  1. New Assistant Dean of MBA Programs, Kerry Pace
    • I am not sure if you saw the email sent out announcing the fact that we have a new Assistant Dean of MBA Programs (we didn't really have one since the programs were combined)
    • Kerry is awesome. She is definitely going to be looked at as doing more of the hands on work, while Dean Romanelli continues to think strategically
    • I had the opportunity to meet with Kerry a couple weeks ago to talk about where I think the program office has been over the last 2 years and where I think (based on the discussions ESGA has had) they need to go in the next year +
    • One area that it seems she is really focused on is EP/FT relations and furthermore ESGA/SGA relations
  2. EP/FT Relations
    • Kerry, Dean Romanelli, PJ, Rich Warner (Executive VP of SGA), and I all got together before orientation started to discuss EP/FT relations and how we can work to improve them especially from a new class perspective, EP16/M15
    • We discussed the addition of the joint BBQ and baseball game as being great ways to start the relationships early
    • We also mentioned the fact that including verbiage about the fact that both programs exist and explaining how we will be interacting with the students from both programs throughout our time here would help paint the right picture
    • There definitely was some healthy discussion amongst the 5 of us on clubs and SGA/ESGA events (we can talk more on this when we get together)
  3. Clubs
    • One of the items I know we all know we need to focus on is clubs, if we really want EP involvement we have to start a movement on this one
    • In the meeting I had above, I thought it might be worth while to get a few people together from both sides ESGA, SGA, Club Leadership, EP Liaisons, maybe 5-10 of these people into a room before classes really get going to really brainstorm how we can change the way clubs are perceived on both sides
    • I was able to really drive club involvement as one of the many areas I challenged the EP16s to look into during my opening remarks to them on Wednesday 8/7. In the reception, I spoke to a lot of them further and they were asking questions about whether EPs can really get involved. And I was blunt but careful, I said to most people something like this: "this is an area the program office, ESGA, and SGA are really looking to improve -- we have done x,y, and z to help get us to a point where the EPs can get involved, now we can only do so much, we need you to want to be involved and take it on." They seemed encouraged and excited!
    • Furthermore, what would be awesome would be if we had some EPs run for leadership positions in the clubs. I mean if we really want a stake in clubs we have to be on the board and not just as a EP Liaison, right? I know this will be a battle given the fact that elections for these positions are by the club with heavy FT populations -- but let's put our best foot forward and try. Can you think of any of your peers, EP15s, that are involved in clubs that might take on this challenge this December? How we encourage them?
    • I know you are also thinking the club meeting times are at lunch times, well, guess what this semester for the first time the "5-6:30" block is now open for everyone, i.e. no classes are scheduled here. Maybe some clubs would be willing if enough EPs were involved to push the meeting time to the evening? Maybe?
  4. Events for VP Socials
    • Amanda/Elizabeth - I spoke with Rich apparently Julia is looking to do some sort of mixer EP/FT in the beginning of the semester. I told him it would be helpful if it had some joint input. Can you reach out to Julia and say you heard about the event through us and wanted to see how you can help plan/give input?
    • EP/FT Monthly Regularly Occurring HH -  One idea that was brought up at the EP/FT relations meeting was the idea of a regularly scheduled HH. Like every first friday of the month at XX bar in georgetown people could come and meet up. I think this can't hurt? Thoughts? Dean Romanelli tasked ESGA to take the lead on this -- any takers? What should we call it? Should it be at the same place every time? Etc...
  5. ESGA Get Together
    • I would like to get together before school starts to really hammer down some of our event ideas and strategies for this semester. Ideally fleshing out some of what I have above into tangible goals
    • In addition, I want to see your faces! It has been way too long.
    • Please respond to this doodle with your available dates for a get together notionally at my house by this Wednesday 8/14: http://www.doodle.com/a282dsbx7tkd3r6z
A lot of this was me rambling things that have been on my brain for the last few weeks, thanks for your patience in reading this email. But take some time and think about these items and let's talk about it more concretely when we get together. If you have any additional thoughts, feel free to send them out as well!

IMPORTANT DATES:
Monday September 9th - CLUB FAIR 5:00-6:30
Tuesday September 10th and Wednesday September 11th - Reorientation 5:00-6:30 (optional but encouraged for EP14s, EP15s - come on whatever day works for your sched) - I will send out the agenda for this soon.

Cheers,
Jannette
