Hi everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying the first few days of summer! A few quick things:
1) EP16 Orientation
I wanted to remind everyone that next week the EP16s are starting orientation - crazy, right? The latest and greatest schedule is attached.
I mentioned this perviously but I am going to be speaking at the Wednesday 7/7 kick off event which starts 6:00 and I will be right after the Deans at 6:30 ish. I would love to have you there as support, in addition if you can't make it to my remarks I would highly encourage you to attend the reception hour that is at 8:25-9:30 that same night.
2) Fall 2013 Budget
Jess and I will work to get the budget to you guys in the next few weeks so that you can start planning your events. You should be expecting roughly the same amount you got this year, if you have something in mind where you might need more or less funding then previously please let Jess know so she can plan accordingly.
3) New Assistant Dean - Kerry Pace
You may have saw the announcement about MSB's new assistant Dean, Kerry. She is awesome - I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview her in the spring and I am really excited to see she was selected.
I had the opportunity to meet with her last week to give her an overview of ESGA and give her an idea of the goals we have accomplished over the last 2 years and also where we still are looking to improve. Highlighting a few of the items we discussed at our last meeting, specifically FT/EP relations, clubs, communication, general distance between EP students and the program office, among other things. She was really excited to help us tackle some of these areas and really had some outside the box thoughts which I thought was great and refreshing! I will definitely invite her to our first official meeting and I even would like to get together with her on clubs specifically before school starts (Lex/Scott - I would want your input here too).
4) Club Fair
Reminder this is Monday September 9th 5:00-6:30 spread the word to any peers you know are looking to get involved. We will definitely want some facebook posts closer to the event too! We need to make sure EPs show since we pushed for the EP appropriate time. :)
Also, another note on clubs. This direction was given by SGA to all club president's recently (7/24):
EP Club Dues - Please note that we (along with the Program Office) have decided to set EP club dues to the same breakdown as FT dues. Therefore, an EP student will pay the same amount for 3 years as a FT student would pay for 2 years. This is solely because they are not able to attend as many events during the day as FT students due to their work schedule so to be fair, their dues cover the same amount throughout their time as a student. Also, if an EP member only wants to join for part of the time they are a student, the rate will remain the same as if they had joined for 1 year as a FT student. Therefore, for simplicity, a 3 year EP membership will be the same as a 2 year FT membership, but a 1 OR 2 year EP membership will be the same as a 1 year FT membership. Hopefully this will clarify any confusion as EP students ask questions about dues.
This is exciting news because previously it was believed that the program office or SGA couldn't control what the clubs did, well it looks like they are making this something they can control! Definitely will help us in recruiting EPs to join clubs.
5) Fun
I am going to look to plan some informal HH or dinner at my place in the next few weeks to catch up before school starts again. Will keep you posted on a date/time.
Cheers,
Jannette
