Workshop on Food Safety Standards Act Compliance & Food Safety Guidelines for Corporate Sector.
A Must for All Facility & Admin Managers

In case you are not the person who looks after the F&B or Canteen Facility in your Organisation, kindly forward this to the right person. Thanks.

By now almost all of you must have heard or read about the new Food Safety and Standards Act and the Food Safety Governing Body, FSSAI.

The new Food Safety Law takes the following under its purview:

  • Hotels,
  • Restaurants,
  • Packaged Food Manufacturers,
  • Food Sellers and Re-sellers,
  • Canteens in Corporate Companies, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Government Institutions,
  • Food Importers and Exporters,
  • Raw Material Suppliers
  • and all who are related to Food Business

As per the Law, any entity involved in mass manufacturing of food needs to get either Registered or Licensed by FSSAI or FDA. The Caterers supplying to the Corporate Canteens and the Corporate Canteens that are in cooking their own food are no exception to the Law.

The essence of the new Law is that Food Safety is to be driven by self initiative and not by coercion from the authorities. Thus the Government Authorities believe that it is the responsibility of the responsible managers to ensure the correct measures to be implemented for Food Safety. The following are a few basic responsibilities of the responsible managers:

  • Registration/Licensing of all Food Vendors
  • Registration/Licensing of all the in-house Corporate Canteens
  • Formulation of proper Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Plans
  • Adherence to the FSMS Plans and assurance of Food Safety

Failure in compliance to the New Law would attract monetary penalties of upto Rs.10 lacs, and imprisonment of the responsible individuals, from 6 months upto a lifetime.

The only possible safeguard that might protect the one found guilty is adherence to a proper FSMS Plan, meticulous documentation of the entire Food Safety Initiatives and filling of Non Compliance Reports (NCR), wherever applicable.
