Knife attacks are often short quick successive jabs to the torso. This
of course makes defending against a knife attack very difficult. But
in South Africa the knife attack is not the only bladed weapon used in
violent crimes. A surge of panga attacks have been in the news lately.
The panga, although a more intimidating weapon, is probably easier to
defend against. The weapon is much bigger, so it’s more difficult to
conceal. The panga is not a stabbing weapon, but a striking weapon
which makes it a somewhat slower weapon with a great line of motion.
This also means that it is easier to detect a panga attack and
plausibly easier to defend against.

Because Taekwon-Do was developed during a time of war where bayonets
were still quite prevalent, it has an store defences against bayonets.
The bayonet is both a stabbing and a striking weapon. Such striking
attacks with a bayonet is similar to possible panga striking attacks,
therefore we already have a cache of possible defences to consider. Of
course, such defences will have to be adjusted to fit the nuances of
the panga.

I know it is difficult to think what one would do and how one would
react in a violent crime scenario, but for the sake of argument, If
you were confronted with a panga attack, how would you approach
defending yourself against this weapon?
