End of SoCIS

Dear all,

GSoC has finished and now we have one remaining SoCIS student and are not sure how to end SoCIS. I really like the way that Google does it - they require you to submit a final report which includes a few multiple choice evaluations (like did the student finish the project, what was his/her performance, etc. ). I think SoCIS should do this as well! Evaluations (IMHO) are an important part of these efforts. I believe firmly that it is a training exercise for the students with the added benefit of contributing to OSS. I know that SoCIS is understaffed, but I think we as mentoring organizations can help out with some of that. 

My suggestion is as follows: 

 - Maxim (and team) provide a firm "pencils down" date. 

 - Mentoring Organizations and Maxim+Team make up a quick Google form where we put the evaluations. 

 - Mentoring Organizations send some eval to students

What do people think?

in the previous years the organizers sent out evaluation forms to be
filled by both student and project.
Is there anything wrong with how it was handled from your point of view?

In case you haven't seen this yet, this is how such a form looks like:

- Project name
- Mentor name and organization
- Student name
- Short presentation of the project (10-15 lines)

- Planned work (objectives)
- Activities actually performed
- Technologies involved

- Evaluation from the student (10-15 lines)
- Evaluation from the mentor (10-15 lines)

No - so who sends this out? SoCIS? No that's what I'm suggesting - just in a google form to make it easier for ESA. 

I am also keen on having a firm date.

Typically the guy who handles the payout or Maxime sends this out.

I also don't know about a specific date, but the rule is three months.
So why don't you just set that date yourself, based on when your student
started.

I can just confirm what Johannes said.

Coding period is 3 months from the 1st June to the 31th August, so it is ending soon.

I will send out the evaluation form in a couple of days. It will be the same as the previous years.
