Dear all,
The Department of Economics at the University of Innsbruck is hiring a fully funded PhD student to join the FWF-funded project "Marginal Propensities to Consume & Labor Supply Elasticities", led by Felix Holzmeister (Innsbruck), Andreas Dibiasi (Bozen-Bolzano), and Samad Sarferaz (ETH Zurich).
How do households actually adjust spending and labor supply when income shocks hit? The project tackles this question head-on with a large-scale survey experiment spanning a diverse set of countries, delivering cross-country estimates across a wide range of shock types. It also digs into intra-household dynamics and the role of culture, trust, and personal economic experience in shaping behavioral heterogeneity. The successful candidate will be a full member of the team, contributing across experimental design, data collection, analysis, and publications, and developing independent papers as part of the dissertation.
Key terms:
• Employment: 50% → 75% (upon submission of the dissertation agreement)
• Salary: ~€1,880/month gross (50%) → ~€2,830/month gross (75%), 14× per year
• Duration: up to 48 months; earliest start September 2026
• Location: University of Innsbruck, Austria
We're looking for a candidate with a Master's in Economics (or a closely related quantitative field), solid skills in econometrics and causal inference, and fluency in R, Stata, or Python. Prior exposure to survey or experimental methods is a plus.
