I would like to share a 3-year doctoral position (starting September 2026) that might be of great interest to students in your networks, particularly those with a background in experimental economics and formal philosophy.
The Project: "Improving collective decisions in expert committees"
The doctoral student will work on adapting novel voting methods (such as the non-opposition rule or Majority Judgment) to improve collective decision-making in scientific and medical expert committees.
Key features of the position:
Dual Affiliation: The researcher will be based in Philosophy at the University of Poitiers, with regular research stays at the economics department at Montpellier Business School (MBS).
International Ecosystem: The candidate will join a large international team (including researchers from Bochum, Munich, and Nancy) through two major projects: ANR-DFG QUALIGRASCI and ERI DECIMED.
Interdisciplinary Methodology: The work involves argument analysis, formal modeling, computer simulation, and controlled experiments in collective decision making.
Conditions: A gross salary of about €2,300 / month. Teaching is optional (up to 64 hours/year) and provides additional income.
Candidate Profile We are looking for candidates with a Master’s degree in Economics or Philosophy. Skills in modeling, simulation, or formalization are required, along with a strong interest in experimental approaches. English proficiency (B2) is required; French is not mandatory at the start.
