** Please share with undergraduates interested in pursuing a PhD in Economics. Application deadline is Jan 10, 2024

** A&M has a strong group of behavioral, experimental and applied micro faculty engaged in research using field and laboratory experiments.
______________

The Department of Economics at Texas A&M offers a PhD in Economics and six fields of specialization: Public/Labor Economics, Industrial Organization, Experimental and Behavioural Economics, Economic Theory, Econometrics and Macroeconomics. The current faculty provide exceptional training and mentorship to graduate students, and the Department is hiring additional faculty in applied micro, applied theory and econometrics to start in Fall 2024. Recent PhD placements have been excellent, with a number of students placing at R1 universities.

Admission decisions are based on a holistic evaluation of a combination of prior preparation in economics, mathematics and statistics courses, overall grade point average, quality of undergraduate and, if applicable, Master’s training, GRE scores, statement of purpose and letters of recommendation. There is not a minimum threshold for GPA, GRE scores, or courses taken. Admission is only granted for students entering in the Fall semester.

Each year, around 200 applications are received for the PhD program, and 10-15% are admitted. The Department awards an average of 12 assistantships in each first-year PhD class. These assistantships include a monthly stipend, a tuition waiver, and a health insurance package. Assistantships are renewable each year for five years as long as the student remains in good standing in the department.

The deadline for PhD applications is January 10, 2024, and details about the application process are given here. For queries about the program, email Econom...@tamu.edu.
