Dear ESA-Community,

The European Association for Data Science (EuADS) is pleased to announce the 2026 instalment of its popular Summer School series.

What: EuADS Summer School "Data Science and AI meet Economics"
When: 5-7 July 2026
Where: Maison d’Accueil (Convent of the Franciscan Sisters), 50 avenue
Gaston Diderich, L-1420 Luxembourg-Belair
Register until: 1 June 2026

Data science (DS) and artificial intelligence (AI) have become central to modern economics as the discipline has shifted from theory to data and computation. Today, economists work with massive, complex datasets and study increasingly nonlinear, strategic, and dynamic systems -- areas in which data science, AI and machine learning provide powerful tools for efficiently processing high-dimensional, unstructured, and large-scale data. DS/AI methods improve causal inference, prediction, and forecasting. They also inspire new approaches to modeling dynamic optimization and strategic behavior.

Conversely, economics contributes foundational ideas that shape how AI systems are designed, evaluated, and deployed. Indeed, some of the most significant concepts in contemporary AI originate from economic theory, which provides the basis for decision-making (statistical decision theory), strategic reasoning (game theory), incentive design (mechanism design), causal inference (trustworthy AI), welfare analysis (AI ethics), and behavioral modeling (human-centered AI).

A series of five tutorials delivered by leading experts in the field will address the synergies and mutual benefits between data science/artificial intelligence and economics. The summer school emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of data science and is aimed primarily at Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers from both disciplines -- DS/AI and economics —- with an interest in interdisciplinary research and applications.

The EuADS Summer School is followed by a public event on Wednesday morning, 8 July, during which Julie Josse (National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology, Inria, France.) will deliver this year's Sabine Krolak-Schwerdt Lecture entitled 'Federated Causal Inference for Policy Evaluation: From Data to Informed Decisions' (https://www.euads.org/sks-lecture/).

The Summer School is planned as an in-person event and the symposium as an hybrid event. For more information including how to register see:

This year, the EuADS Summer School is co-located with the EcoMod2026 International Conference on Economic Modeling and Data Science
(https://ecomod.net/node/11942?cookies=1). Participants in the summer school can attend the first day of the conference (8 July) free of charge.

For participants there are a limited number of affordable rooms available at the Maison d’Accueil, please have a look at our website. There are several hotels within walking distance. However, please note it is very urgent to make your reservation now because the Councils of ministers of the EU are all held in Luxembourg during the month of June and therefore prices will rise in the coming months. It is also worth noting that in Luxembourg all public transport is free of charge.

EuADS looks forward to seeing you in Luxembourg in July.

Best,
Behnud
