Dear ESA colleagues,

The Behavioural and Economic Sciences (BeES) cluster at the University of Leicester School of Business is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Conference of the Network of the Behavioural and Experimental Economists based in the UK to be held on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th July 2024

The conference aims at bringing together scholars and researchers based in the UK interested in advancing our understanding of behavioural and experimental economics and its applications.

We are excited to welcome Lata Gangadharan (Professor of Economics and Joe Isaac Chair of Business and Economics at Monash University; President-Elect of the Economic Science Association) as our Keynote Speaker.

The conference will also feature a roundtable on ‘The Origins of Experimental Economics in the UK’. John Hey (University of York), Graham Loomes (Warwick Business School), Chris Starmer (University of Nottingham) and Robert Sugden (University of East Anglia) have already agreed to contribute to the roundtable.

We will have contributed sessions with 30-minute presentations of behavioural and experimental research by members of our network. There will also be poster sessions to maximise participation and research exchanges. Everyone is welcome to register and participate in the conference even if not presenting a paper. Indeed, we see this annual conference as the primary gathering of the UK community of Behavioural and Experimental Economists.

We invite submissions of abstracts on all topics in behavioural and experimental economics, including (but not limited to) experiments, applications, theory, etc.

If you are interested in presenting (a paper/poster), please submit an abstract by filling out the application form available here by 28th April 2024.

More information about the conference including registration fees and the like are available here.

Important dates:

  • Submission deadline: 28 April 2024.
  • Notification of acceptance: Early May 2024.
  • Conference dates: 11-12 July 2024.

Location: School of Business, University of Leicester (located only 70 minutes by train from central London, UK).

The conference will be preceded by a Summer School on ‘Implementing Experimental Designs: Best Practices for Software Programming’ of two-and-a-half days (9th - 11th July 2024) led by Ted Turocy (University of East Anglia) and Boon Han Koh (University of Exeter). More information about the summer school is available here.
