The First Inaugural Annual Conference on AI, Large Language Models, and the Social Sciences (LLMSS) 14-16 October 2026 — Hong Kong

Call for Papers

The conference on AI, Large Language Models, and the Social Sciences, Hong Kong 2026 is organised by CityU’s Computational Social Sciences Lab, the University of Oxford’s Nuffield College Talking to Machines Initiative, and Peking University’s Analytics Lab for Global Risk Politics and is supported by the European Political Science Association (EPSA).

LLMSS Hong Kong 2026 will bring together researchers working at the frontier of AI, LLMs, and social science research, including economics, political science, psychology, sociology, and the health sciences. The conference format emphasizes intellectual exchange, methodological clarity, and cross-disciplinary engagement. In addition to contributed papers, the program will feature keynote lectures, special tracks, and roundtable discussions on emerging themes. 

 

Conference Themes

We invite submissions addressing theoretical, methodological, and applied questions related to AI and LLMs in the social sciences, including but not limited to the following areas:

Data Generation (e.g., LLMs as synthetic respondents in survey research, digital twin technologies in the health sciences, consumer research, and organizational behavior. Data Collection & Curation (e.g., text, image, video, and audio data; measurement, bias, and data quality in AI-assisted pipelines). Data Analysis (e.g., analysis of conversations, interviews, and open-ended survey responses.  Experimental & Research Design) (e.g., integration of LLMs into lab, field, and online experiments).  Technical Advances (e.g., multimodal models incorporating text, images, video, and audio; architectures and toolchains tailored to social science research).  Safety, Ethics & ReplicationLLMs, the Economy & Governance.

 

Submissions

We welcome submissions from researchers across disciplines and career stages. Submissions may present methodological innovations, substantive applications, or integrative frameworks.

  • Submission deadline: March 31, 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: May 1, 2026

Accepted papers will be presented at the conference and included in the open-access conference proceedings.
