We are pleased to announce that the Fifth International Behavioural Public Policy Conference (IBPPC) will be held at The University of Queensland from Monday 28th – Wednesday 30th  September 2026. 

The IBPPC brings together scholars from a broad range of social science disciplines with a shared interest in the growing multidisciplinary field of Behavioural Public Policy. We very much welcome submissions of behavioural and experimental economics research with relevance to public policy.

Call for Abstracts, Thematic Sessions, and Policy Sessions 

Deadline for (extended) abstract and Session submissions: 1 February 2026 

Notification of acceptance: 15 March 2026 

Deadline for registration of presenters: 15 June 2026 

 

We invite submissions of empirical and theoretical papers in all areas of Behavioural Public Policy. This fifth annual conference of the International Behavioural Public Policy Association will feature four formats: invited keynotes, parallel paper sessions, thematic sessions, and policy sessions. All submissions can be made via the conference website: https://www.ibppa.org/conference.  

 

Paper Sessions (standard abstract submission) 

1. Paper sessions will showcase research from all areas of Behavioural Public Policy and follow a standard presenter + Q&A format.  

2. Please submit an extended abstract of your paper (about one page) via the conference website by 1st February 2026. Please select ‘Paper Session’ on the submission form. More details on possible contents of papers are provided on the website. 

 

Thematic Sessions  

1. Thematic Sessions provide a platform for a group of presenters to collectively showcase a range of projects, (case) studies, or papers that are all interconnected under a common theme within the realm of Behavioural Public Policy. 

2. Each Thematic Session will have a duration of max. 1.5 hours, and presenters will be tasked with the organization and facilitation of their own sessions. 

3. A Thematic Session should consist of at least 3 and no more than 4 presenters. Presenter + Q&A format is accepted but interactive formats (e.g., panel discussions) are highly encouraged and will be prioritised. 

4. Please submit Thematic Session proposals via the conference website by 1st February 2026 by selecting ‘Thematic Session’ on the submission form. More details on what should be included in the Thematic Session proposal are provided on the website. 

 

Policy Sessions  

1. Policy Sessions bring together practitioners and academics of BPP. The focus is on empirical and conceptual issues regarding the real-world application of BPP in a wide set of domains and institutional settings, including public administration, municipalities, large organisations, and businesses.   

2. Each Policy Session will have a duration of max. 1-1.5 hours, and presenters will be tasked with the organization and facilitation of their own sessions. 

3. A Policy Session must utilise an interactive format (e.g., panel discussion) that will engage the audience. Standard paper presentations will not be considered. The session should consist of at least 3 and no more than 5 panellists.  

4. Please submit Policy Session proposals via the conference website by 1st February 2026 by selecting ‘Policy Session’ on the submission form. More details on what should be included in the Policy Session proposal are provided on the web
