I am the owner of http://www.machowto.com, a website which is
dedicated to the FREE exchange of Macintosh support and dedicated to making
a community that isn't focused on making money but making peoples lives and
jobs easier by giving answers to common problems. Unlike Macfixit.com we
will never charge for a service we provide, we believe that this is contrary
to the community spirit we are trying to achieve. I would also like to thank
those who have read and came and made a new home. I want to welcome all
people who are not Mac users but are just curious about the platform, we are
here to answer your questions.

I know you have read this message in other newsgroups and you may or may not
think that this is spam, I happen to think it is the best way to make a new
site known to the public. I apologize if this message upsets you.

Right now all that is open to the public is a forum, but much more is coming
but with a shortage of help and I myself having a Full Time Job, a military
wife, and my own life, things are coming slowly, but here are some things to
look forward to:

A Database of problems and answers for all Mac Models.
A Centralized database of all Mac models and specs
A report database for conflicts, firmware etc (things Macfixit Charges for)
A How-to database so you can add or find a how-to for just about anything.

I have a great future planned here and I want everyone in the Macintosh
community to come and help make it a place where new and old Mac users can
unite without the fear of having restrictions on what they can say or do
(within respects). I want this to be a place where people can express
themselves, help others, or just add something to the community. So if you
are a Mac user or someone interested in the Macintosh platform, come and
stop by www.machowto.com and make it your home.

Sincerely
David Besade

I had my Jaguar installed but did not like it too much so went back to just
9.2. Now that they have upgraded it I would like to try it again. Will I
lose all my files if I install Jaguar now?
Does it delete all your files when installing? I have lots of photos.

Hi Carol,

Well there are a few options you can take to save all your data so that
you don't lose it. One would be to make back-ups onto a removable media or
to another Hard Drive other than the start-up disc. Which is smart because
back-ups are always our friends!

Or two OS X allows for an archive of older systems and then installs.
Also I'm not too sure but OS X's file hierarchy is completely different than
OS 9.2 and previous versions. So You could probably be able to regular
install OS X, but do NOT re format or partition the drive, and all your
files should be left untouched. To be safe other than sorry though a back-up
is encouraged regardless of what method you use.

Hope this info helps. Also The new Jaguar & Panther (versions of OS X)
are unbelievable user friendly! Yes the interface is different but once
accustomed to it you will be extremely happy with it.
