Another potential client for the Watchkeeper X was France, where Thales identified more than 30 companies as potential suppliers in France. The potential partners included many small and medium-sized firms, one of which was Vitec, a specialist in video technology. The French UAS program did not require armament for the drones.[4]
We put together a mood board to get a sense of the visuals the client felt would appeal to the sector, and through this process came to settle on a style inspired by the vintage travel posters of the 1930s, with a high contrast colour palette and classy scenes.
We drafted a 90 second script for voice over highlighting the key benefits of the product, keeping messaging light and engaging throughout. With an international audience in mind, we shortlisted voice over artists for the client to choose between, each with a slight accent that would be hard to pin down geographically.
The result is an eye catching, appealing, positive animation that the client felt interpreted the brief really well. Following the success of this project, we were pleased to be asked to create an additional animation to showcase the benefits of the core Watchkeeper product.

We used to do 6 and 6 in this neck of the woods on an OSV but if we were running anchors we had an extra mate, 6 on the bridge, 6 on the back deck and 6 off. STCW kicked that into touch and with DP the normal is 2 in a watch working 12 and 12. When it was 6 on 6 off we always picked up another mate for a run job because the pacific is a pretty big back yard and if one watchkeeper was incapacitated you still had two.
One of the most lauded projects on site was the testing of the Watchkeeper unmanned aerial system (UAS), a joint-venture between Israeli weapons giant Elbit Systems and French arms company Thales, a vehicle ready to be fully rigged with whatever weapons of war the client desires.
Watchkeeper was pushed to clients at the London Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) arms fair in 2011 by flaunting all of its destructive capability, with an early model of the drone hung from the ceiling having had dummy missiles glued to the underside of its wings for shopping buyers.

And, of course, Thales gains the experience with working the service contract, which, in turn, can allow the company to propose similar arrangements with other clients, in Europe and beyond. In a media briefing at the Farnbourgh Air Show, Nick Miller, Business Director for ISTAR and UAV Systems for Thales, UK provided an overview on Watchkeeper and the H-450 program.
