What is WhatsApp Web?
When you send a message, you can see ticks that indicate whether a message was read (blue ticks) unless the recipient turned this off. You can turn this off as well, but you will not be able to see read receipts for anyone else. This removes the pressure to respond right away.
If a contact is making your child uncomfortable, encourage them to block and report them. They can stop receiving messages, calls and status updates with the block feature. If reported, WhatsApp will review the last 5 messages sent by the contact.
By default, the app has specific privacy settings in place that allow any user to see when you've last used the app (last seen), your profile photo, your "about" information, and read receipts. They also allow contacts to see your status updates, and any users can add you to groups.
Hi, I noticed that on my new iphone 14 that my camera is being by whatsapp even when the app is closed and removed from the background. Is that an iPhone bug or is it indeed being used and my security is compromised ? did this happen to anybody ?
I am facing the same issue of whatsapp using my camera, even if I close the app in background and even if I turn of my camera access from the settings still it shows that whatsapp is using my camera, it is really scary but whenever that happens I just restart my device and it goes away.
I had the same issue. I uninstalled WhatsApp. Noticed the green light and then proceeded to shut my phone off. When I powered back on the light was gone and I reinstalled the app. Issue resolved. Hope this helps.
Did you delete the app or remove it from your Home screen? Go to the App Store and search for WhatsApp. Does it show a download icon, or does it say OPEN (meaning it is still on your phone). And did you restart your phone after removing it?
WhatsApp collects your personal data such as your IP address which they use to target you with ads. A VPN will mask your IP address and allow you to surf the web anonymously and securely.
WhatsApp has several privacy settings and features that give users control over the information they share, who they share it with, and how they communicate with others on the platform.
WhatsApp collects user information by default in the app. Configuring your WhatsApp privacy settings can help you limit the data collected by the app to only the information you are comfortable providing.
However, it is good to remember that you cannot use WhatsApp without spilling some personal information. There are other WhatsApp alternatives you might want to look at if you want to stay anonymous.
If you wish to adjust your WhatsApp privacy settings you can take a look at the overview below. We explain where you can find the settings you need. Moreover, you can see what things you can change to heighten your privacy on WhatsApp.
To increase the level of privacy on WhatsApp, you can set chat messages to disappear after one, seven, or 90 days. Below find instructions on how to set disappearing messages for all chats.
Recently, WhatsApp announced it will share your personal data with its parent company Meta (formerly Facebook). In fact, WIRED reports that WhatsApp has been sharing this information with its subsidiaries since 2016 and continues to do so.
Have you ever searched for a product online just to find a similar ad when you logged in to Facebook or Instagram? To prevent this, we advise using a VPN. A VPN will anonymize your connection by masking your IP address thus preventing Facebook and other companies from tracking you online.
However, most users find it difficult to leave WhatsApp since most of their contacts still use the platform. In that case, users should tighten their privacy on WhatsApp by adjusting the privacy settings discussed in this article and use the industry-leading NordVPN to anonymize their connection and avoid being tracked online.
This means that while your conversations on WhatsApp may be encrypted, other data associated with your account, such as your phone number, profile information, and usage patterns, may be accessible to Meta.
At the same time, expectations on companies have changed in terms of data protection and privacy. With big companies suffering major security breaches, users have been increasingly concerned about the safety of their data.
The tips and tricks in this guide show how to change privacy settings in WhatsApp, but you can do even more with a VPN. As well as hiding your location, VPNs offer encryption, which will protect all your online activity, including WhatsApp.
Mobile messaging (IM) applications like WhatsApp, WeChat, Signal, and Telegram are becoming an ever-increasing part of our lives, with their ease of sending texts and multimedia files, and making calls. Additionally, features such as end-to-end encryption in the mobile IM applications offer better security during communication. While these IM apps by default give other people the ability to view your name, profile picture, phone number, and other personal information, they do offer users a variety of options to safeguard their privacy.
In a previous blog, we compared the security and privacy of different mobile messaging apps. In the sections below, we will guide you through the privacy settings and the best way to adjust your privacy settings in popular apps like: WhatsApp, WeChat, Signal, and Telegram
There is another option where you can create a blocklist to add numbers from your contacts, for whom you do not wish to send or receive messages in WhatsApp. You can also enable fingerprint lock on your WhatsApp application, where you will be required to use your fingerprint every time to unlock the application (You can always answer WhatsApp calls without using your fingerprint).
WeChat allows you to use a WeChat account based on either a WeChat ID or your mobile number. Other WeChat users can search for you using your WeChat ID or mobile number, and add you as their friend. If you wish not to be discoverable by either your WeChat ID or your mobile number, then you can turn it off inside Methods for Friending Me. If you toggle on the Require Friend Request, other WeChat users will be required to send you a friend request, and you should confirm the same before they can chat with you.
The default end-to-end encryption provided for conversations and metadata makes Signal the most secure mobile chat application in current use. And due to this fact, we have seen a migration of users towards Signal. But, the application also offers other settings to give you a more private chatting experience.
Signal allows you to disguise your IP address while making or receiving calls (voice and video) in Signal. Tap Always Relay Calls to turn this feature on. Since such calls are routed through Signal servers the call quality can become low.
For additional security and privacy, you can turn on the Screen Lock feature. Once the feature is turned on and you lock the app, you will be required to enter your screen passcode (or the biometric that you use to unlock the screen) to open the application. Turning the Registration Lock feature on restricts the registration of the app on a new device, or reinstallation of the app on an existing device, without the use of a preset PIN.
If you do not wish to see the content of your incoming messages in notifications, you can tap Notifications in the app Settings and select how much information you want to display.
Tap the Forwarded Messages and select the appropriate option so that you can select the people, who can add a link to your account while forwarding your messages. The Calls option helps you set the people who can call you and the Groups option allows you to set the people who can add you in group chats.
You can lock and unlock the Telegram app using Passcode Lock. You can further improve your privacy by enabling the Two-Step Verification that requires you to set a password.
Similar to other mobile messaging apps Telegram also offers you the option not to receive messages or calls from other Telegram users. For that, you will have to add the users from your contacts to the list in Blocked Users.
