Thanks for your excellent pages, I use them every time I have to install Linux Mint somewhere.
This is the default boot line. It's set at 0, because..... Grub starts
counting with 0 and not with 1. Don't ask me why; probably because nerds
derive a deep satisfaction from counting differently from ordinary
people....
I think it is inherited from the C language in which linux is authored, where array indexes start from 0. It makes sense because it tells you how far from the beginning you have to go to get to the line you want: if you want the first line take zero lines forward from the beginning, if you want the fifth line take four lines forwards.
