It is suggested on this site that KDE apps play havock with Linux Mint. I have been using the following KDE software for years without any problems: KRITA, OKULAR, AND CALLIGRA. So, not all KDE apps are incompetible.

Not all, no. But some pull too much of the KDE desktop upon installation.
