According to the log Cableguys: ShaperBox 3 crashes for you a lot. Quite likely it takes other plugins and Renoise with it. Anything can happen, can be corruped after such crashes. The only way to avoid plugin from taking down Renoise and other plugins is to sandbox it.

Thanks for your fast reply taktik, I already suspected Shaperbox 3 from being the source of the crashes. Every time Renoise crashes (happened many times before), shaperbox is in the device chain which I work on (delete, copy etc), but I read that I could better not write down my assumptions beforehand.

ShaperBox is great for time-based effects, as mentioned, but it may or may not be what you want if you're looking to modulate arbitrary parameters. I haven't tried MidiShaper, but there's a trial version if you want to give it a go. That said, it looks like using it with Logic might be a bit dubious. Also, be wary of the oft-discussed Logic bug/idiosyncrasy wherein timeline-synced plugins like ShaperBox (and maybe MidiShaper) can be knocked out of sync due to latency (you may or may not encounter this issue, depending on the nature of your projects).

it's a routing thing, isn't it? (the problem with time-based effects and latency); i've used shaperbox (and friends) for years without issue (always on single tracks); i use it a lot, often in the same project.

Yeah, we were discussing this a while back in a different thread. The issue comes up in specific circumstances that one may encounter anywhere from all the time to not at all, depending on how your projects are set up. If those particular circumstances don't come up, it's not an issue. (And if they do come up, there are workarounds, although they're not super convenient.)

Scripter can also be used for this. I did an example modulator a while back its on here somewhere, I don't have access to my computer right now to find it. With the scripter version I did, it was synchronized musically metrically...in other words, it would create a sine wave of CC values, with the the cycle being a factor per beat. This script could easily be adapted to any kind of modulation task and could drive plugin parameters of other plugins on the same instrument mixer channel also. it's not a complicated script. i posted it on this forum a while back, I'll try to look for it later.

Regarding latency.. I have personally not encountered any problems the latency causing midi effects, in particular Scripter, to be out of sync. It's entirely possible that some midi fx might not be synced to the metronome beats and are purely time based, in which case perhaps they would not behave as user expected. But i would like to hear more about that.

all of my time-based effects have always worked. and i have only used them on specific tracks, never on busses (for example). shaperbox (up to the present version 3) have been consistent, and the new one has a ridiculous amount of options.... highly recommended ?

@ Shaperbox 3 shows a new alert in the plugin window to stop/playback due to changed latency. I use it in all my projects with >250 tracks. No issues. But it is not what I would expect asking for MIDI lfo. Shaperbox 3 does not modulate any other synths/ plugin parameters.

Here's a Scripter script I wrote a while back on another thread. this is bare bones minimal, but it can get you started... You can easily modify this to modulate the parameter of another plugin on the same instrument channel strip and modify the modulator function to produce different kinds of modulation wave forms.

Also, I am not familiar with the other shaper plugin mentioned, but if they have a midi version, you could use that midifx to produce a cc modulation..and then write a simple Scripter script to convert that CC modulation to instead control a parameter on another plugin in the same channel strip. Actually doesn't one of the built in midifx do that? Sorry I can't be more helpful I don't have access to my computer right now.
