Can't find out options needed for custom fields

I am likely missing something basic, but whenever I try to add a custom field, it seems to ask for options that I don't know about.  I looked in the guide and it referred me to: http://erpnext.org/doctype-fields but that page isn't there ... can someone send me a link to a description of each field type and the options it needs/can have?
