Hi,

Given that operations are anyways associated with workstations in the BOM is it possible to add multiple operations to the work stations in the workstations form and only add the time in the BOM? This way we wouldn't have to keep typing in the same operations across many BOM's.

Hi Sonal,

If you want, you can add just one operation. The reasons to add multiple operations would be:

1. For print

2. For costing (if you have separate costs per workstation).

If you are not doing either, you can just club all your operations in one.

Also, if there are standard templates, you can also use the "copy" feature.

Hi Rushabh,

Some of my workstations are machines each of which have different power consumptions so the costs pertaining to electricity consumed differ substantially.

Also some machines are capable of multiple operations and which one will be used depends on the design. (Also some operations can be done by more than one machine). Further the same operation would require different times for different designs.

So it would be very convenient if there was someplace I could save the operations mapped to the workstations and just apply the times in the BOM. This would eliminate the redundancy of having to map them multiple times. I had imagined a operations list in every workstation form which would show as a drop-down in the BOM against the workstation.

I'd forgotten about the "copy" feature which would help to a large extent but I'd still need to tweak the operations/ workstations/ times across BOMs. For now this will do fine but consider saving the operations with the workstations. It would work for single workstation/ operation as well.

Hi Sonal,

If you have 2 - 3 workstations that are the bulk of your operating costs, it might be a good idea to create Custom Fields in BOM so that you can set their timings there. like "Time on Machine A", "Time on Machine B" etc.

This way for costing, you can always export to excel and do a quick analysis and also avoid creating Operations.

Maybe also add a small script to automatically calculate the cost whenever the BOM is saved.
