Custom memo field works on sales order and material request but not purchase order

Hi.  I have added a custom small text field called memo to my sales orders. Fine.

I added the same memo field to material request. Fine.  

Even better the data flows through to the material request with no extra work.

But I can't make the small text memo field appear on the sales order.  I can see in Firebug that 

cur_frm.doc.memo exists and does contain the value from the material request.

But the field doesn't show in the HTML and I have tried moving it around.

Are purchase orders special somehow?

Update:  For kicks I made a custom purchase order form and that worked.  Memo was already there with data, but now it shows.

Don,

Memo field is not visible in the Sales Order (data entry) form, or in Sales Oder Print format?

If not visible in the form, ensure Hidden is not checked for this field in the Customize Form.

If you wish to see Memo field in the Standard Sales Order print format, ensure "Print Hide" is not checked for this field in the Customize Form.

If visibility issue is in custom print format, please share HTML of print format via pastebin.com, and indicate row at which you have written code for this field.
