Is there an maximum number of images contained in a folder that can be imported in LR Classic at one, it seem like if i have more that 1000 pictures in a folder Classic hangs, i now have to break those files in subfolder , i never used to have issues with importing large folder prior, did you change something. If so please fix this issue, i shoot events and sessions that typically are more that 1000 images in a folder.
Is your Use Graphics Processor checked in preferences>performance? Try unchecking it. There isn't a limit on the number of images you can have in a catalog or folder. Optimizing your catalog may be helpful as well. Optimize Lightroom performance
I suspect that when you try to import a large number of images at one time your system is overheating. Importing and building preview is CPU intensive. Your system is hanging because the CPU gets hot.
I'v recently purchased a new iMac. My old iMac is still running a licensed version of lightroom, but this machine has gotten to slow. I'd like to use it on my new iMac. My iMac supplier has moved all the data and software from my old iMac onto my new iMac. But on my new iMac, every time I open Lightroom, I've being asked to start a trial or to purchase lightroom. I've purchased lightroom in a shop in Belgium in 07/2016 and still have the invoice. But meanwhile I've lost my CD-rom, so also my license number or redemption code is lost or whatever is needed to activate it again. For all my other software I still have my CD-rom and activation codes, but this one somehow has gotten lost.
I finally called Adobe in Brussels. The contact phone number is there on the website but, to me, very well hidden. Now I know where to look for it, I can not understand how I overlooked it. But anyway I've gotten a friendly English speaking man on the phone and he helped me to activate it again in a few minutes it was solved.
Lastly, you should never be in a situation where you can't find your serial numbers (for Lightroom and all other software). You need to develop a method of keeping track of these serial numbers in case you ever need them. I use a text file, which is backed up to the cloud.
@ jim wilde : when I search for lightroom 6.0 (my version) I can only find a mail pointing me out that my trial version will end. I start thinking that I never activated my purchased copy. But than again, how is it possible that I have Lightroom open on my old Mac.
As you can see from the screen shot, this image has between 31-40 keywords, has a title and a description. I can easily step through my images in the Library Module, looking to make sure that each one has a title, description and the number of keywords is less than 50.
This works fine if I export the entire collection. In the export dialog, I can write e.g. some_name as the Custom Text and it will export the pictures as some_name_01, some_name_02, et c. However, if I want to export single images from the collection, it always starts the number sequence at #01. So if I select the eight image in my collection and export it, it will export not as some_name_08, but as some_name_01, creating a conflict between that image and the actual first one.
Is there a way to create a preset that allows me to use a Custom Text along with a sequential numbering that will produce consistent filenames when exporting the entire collection or any subset of it?
You can change the starting number when you export, but it still assumes you're exporting a contiguous sequence of images. In your case, I get the feeling you might export the 5th, 7th and 10th to 15th images, in which case, even if you pick 5 as the starting number you'll get 5, 6, 7, ....
If you only ever export contiguous sets of images, but sometimes don't start at the 1st one, then you can do it, by simply going to the export template each time, and changing the starting number in the dialog to match the starting image number.
Did you by any chance install the copy from the CD after previously installing a more recent copy downloaded from Adobe (the trial copy)?
If so this is always a bad idea. The copies on CD's are either LR 2 or 2.3 and LR doesn't like having these versions installed over the more recent version downloaded. Se posts passim concerning this. It is always best to just use the serial number you have brought with your existing instillation rather than installing from a CD.In fact it is best never to use a CD installation when a download is available.

I am experiencing the same problem with Lightroom 3.3 on Mac OSX 10.6.5.
I started with the trial version of LR3 then bought an upgrade from LR2 which I previously purchased (which in turn was upgraded from LR1).
Every time I start the software it asks me to key in the serial number for LR3 as well as the one for LR2. That's a lot of digits.
What is really strange is that upon purchasing a license for LR3, the counter has reset so I now have another 30 days to "try" the software I have just purchased and entered serial numbers for about half a dozen times. But at least it gets me to my photos quicker.

If you are new to photography, you might find yourself wondering what all of the different numbers, letters, and symbols on your camera lens mean. They may seem complicated at first, but its really easy to understand once explained.
Millimeters, or "mm" for short, is the standard unit of measurement for the focal length of a lens. So when you see "mm" following a number or a pair of numbers on a lens, you will know that the number refers to the focal length (single number) or focal range (pair of numbers).
Let's look at an 18-55mm lens as an example. The pair of numbers refers to the focal length range or that particular lens. You can use this lens at its widest angle (18mm), the most zoomed (55mm), or anywhere between 18mm and 55mm.
When you see a 1: followed by a number, this represents the lens's maximum aperture or how wide the opening on your lens is when you take a photo. The smaller the number, the wider the opening (which lets in more light).
In some cases with zoom lenses, you will see two numbers following the "1:", as in the example below, which shows an aperture range of 1:3.5-4.5. The aperture changes with the zoom's focal length between f/3.5 and f/4.5.
When importing in to Lightroom, can someone explain the difference between Image and Sequence number? Also, Start Number can be use set, but it that the sequence, image or import number or all of them?
I came here with the same problem. I bought the plugin 10 days ago but did not receive a serial number, got an error trying to generate it from the web site, and have had no response to emails or contact via the webform. Trying to send a message via the webform today now also gives an error.
It is starting to look like abandonware... I really would like to get the unrestricted plugin, but it seems like the only option is to dispute the PayPal transaction.
I submitted a PayPal refund claim but in the message made it clear that the refund is not the point. I'm hoping that PayPal has an alternate way to communicate with Vladimir and that my message will get through.
When I try to use the serial number retrieval tool, I get this at the bottom of the error message: "ERROR: The /var/www/html/alloyphoto.com/plugins directory does not exist!"
That suggests to me that the site may have been hacked.
The other AlloyPhoto plugin that I need is the export list for Lightroom. With that plugin it is possible to create an .xml database file that matches the specifications for submitting images for copyright registration. It basically automates the process once it is set up. Very handy.
What did you do to get a response from Vladimir?
I have a similar issue. Serial number doesn't work after a Lightroom version upgrade. I bought it in the last month or so, hence I'm eligible for to continue using it.
Unfortunately, there's no response from Vladimir.
Hello, it seems alloy photo site is still selling the lightroom - piwigo plugin.
But the messages in this thread are disconserting.
Would you buy? I mean is he sending the serial number after purchase? Or is the business abandoned?
Shutter speeds greater than 1 second are either returned as a whole number (e.g. 6) or else rounded to two decimal places (e.g. 1.30). You can force a different precision, such as 3 decimal places in this example:
So we came up with a streamlined layout that reduces the number of options on screen from 15 to just five. We achieved this by grouping similar tools and moving less frequently used tools to the 3-dot menu. With the expandable toolbar, you can now see your entire toolset in one view without scrolling.
Sort adds a URL column to the file containing lightroom: URLs. In Excel, use the HYPERLINK function with this column to make clickable links that will take you directly to each photo in Lightroom.
