MEETING ON HOMELESS NAVIGATION CENTER AT TRAVIS HIGH SCHOOL THURSDAY JANUARY 8 AT 6 PM

There will be a meeting in the cafeteria of Travis High School Thursday, 1/8/2026, at 6 PM. Enter the school through the main entrance facing Oltorf. The Homeless Strategy Office will answer questions about the proposed navigation center planned for near the intersection of Oltorf and I-35. A news release for this event is attached. The news release mentions SANSA, the South Austin Neighborhood Safety Alliance. The businesses along I-35, the residents of Travis Heights, and the residents of the EROC area have formed SANSA, a 501 (c4) non-profit organization, to advocate for improved safety in the East Riverside area. If you are interested in becoming active in this group, please email me.

The Homeless Strategy Office is accepting applications for members of the Advisory Board that will advise the city on services provided at the navigation center. It is important that residents of East Riverside have representation on this board. To apply, go to this link:

EROC OFFICERS ELECTION

In January, an email Request for Vote will be sent to voting members of the EROC Contact Team to elect EROC Officers for 2026. If you would like to be considered for a position, please respond to this email. To improve our community, we need more EROC residents to become active in the EROC Contact Team. The positions:

Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Riverside Area Representative, Parker Area Representative, Pleasant Valley Area Representative, Community Liaison.

NEW APD HENRY SECTOR COMMANDER

Commander Courtney Daniel is the new Henry Sector Commander. Previously, Commander Compton was responsible for both the Henry and Charlie Sectors, which is too much span of control for one commander.

TOKYO ELECTRON PROPERTY

The City of Austin has purchased the remainder of the former Tokyo Electron property. The city previously purchased the TEL property at the Grove-Montopolis intersection. This property is now the Austin Electric Utility maintenance center. The city has purchased the remainder of the TEL property along Grove to Riverside Drive and plans to construct income-restricted housing. The city has also purchased 66 acres of the undeveloped land of the former Sematech property at Montopolis and Oltorf. There will be community outreach meetings to get ideas from citizens on how to develop this property.

EAST RIVERSIDE CORRIDOR PLAN UPDATE

The city is sent notice that they will update the East Riverside Corridor Plan. This plan will determine building height and density for ½ mile on either side of East Riverside Drive. The focus will be on Equitable Transit Oriented Development, which means more height and density. An EROC member, Ed Miller, is an ambassador for the ERC update, and will be reporting on proposed changes to the ERC Plan. To find out more about the ERC update, go to this link:

IMAGINE AUSTIN PLAN UPDATE

I will definitely not be able to attend this meeting. David Gray of the CoA HSO will be here at Arbor Terrace to speak to us.
