GROVE-RIVERSIDE PROJECT UPDATE ZOOM MEETING TUESDAY, JUNE 2 6 PM
The City of Austin has purchased the rest of the former Tokyo Electron campus. This property extends along Grove all the way to Riverside Drive. The City also owns the property on the east side of Grove at Riverside Drive. This property could become a Mueller-style development with community amenities. This is the first community meeting to discuss what the East Riverside community wants for this property. Think about what you want to see in this development and please plan to attend. HERITAGE OAKS PARK PROPERTY
At the May 7 City Council meeting the South Shore PUD zoning case was again postponed by city staff. The zoning case before Council included the recommendation from the Planning Commission that revised the original developer proposal to give the city more Parkland Dedication Fees than the original developer proposal and still credit the developer for buying the abandoned strip property. The reason for the postponement: city staff have now decided that this zoning case must go through the East Riverside Corridor Plan Amendment process. At the May 5 Travis County auction Grayco purchased the abandoned strip property adjacent to Heritage Oaks Park. Grayco was the only bidder, which means that the Parks Department did not bid on the property. The Parks Department is constrained by purchasing rules that do not allow the Parks Department to purchase properties at auction. So, Grayco now owns a property that no one except the East Riverside community wants, but the city has not agreed to their terms for exchanging this property for breaks on parkland dedication fees.
SOUTH AUSTIN NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY ALLIANCE MEETING JUNE 23
This is the link to the South Austin Neighborhood Safety Alliance (SANSA). SANSA is a coalition of EROC and Travis Heights residents and businesses that have joined forces to advocate for more public safety resources for the south Austin neighborhoods on both sides of I-35. SANSA members are concerned that the opening of the homeless navigation center will increase crime in this area, and they are asking City Council for increased public safety resources to mitigate the impact of the navigation center clients on the surrounding community. The next SANSA meeting will be on Tuesday, June 23 at 6 PM at the Faith Presbyterian Church at 1314 E. Oltorf. APD, Travis County Constables, AISD Police and other public safety organization will attend.
